This block is very pretty, cleverly designed, will make a lovely quilt. Please don't be offended, unfortunately your first hsts made here are going to cause a problem. You put them into the outer border of the quilt after making them with bias edges. Thus all your blocks will be unstable. Much better to make 2 squares for each fabric and make more conventional hsts, for the outer edges. All the best.

Thank you for the feedback Kathleen. We use our yearly Sampler program to experiment with and expose our customers to new techniques. We had seen the 4 HSTs at-a-time method in the quilting community - it is clever and quick, but the downside is that it does create those pesky bias edges. In this case, since we have put the 12-inch block on-point within the 17-inch block, the bias edge does regain some stability from the large corner triangle. In any event, since making this pattern and video, we have mostly gravitated to the 2-HSTs-at-a-time method (as you have described) for our designs - it is still quite quick and offers better stability.
