Just as well cars and buses aren't as strong as bridges. Dunno how this happens so often, you have it written above your head in the cab, it also has the height on the bridges and you need to pass a relatively difficult (compared to cars) theory test to get a LGV license. That bridge looks EXCEPTIONALLY small from what I can see, plus I think I know the bridge having seen it maybe 2/3 times and I would be careful to drive a van through there making sure I was exactly in the centre as I went under so I can't for the life of me figure out how this happened. Guy had to be sleeping or mega wasted.

We have them here in Exeter,luckily they were sacked,going on red was one stopping on green and one who refused to put down disabled ramp and the gent ending up thrown from wheelchair,then passengers helped our Dave driver instant dismissal deserved it .

One of the passengers said the bus route required the driver to turn right before getting to the bridge and they have no idea why the bus driver went straight ahead. With a headroom of just 8 foot 3 inches it would be too low for most modern coaches.

The driver shouldn't have been driving the bus if he wasn't aware of the height. He needs his license taken away and the company needs to be investigated too, for allowing him to drive the bus without knowing anything about height restrictions, as well as the vehicle height.

The bridge is too low. The driver took the wrong turn and ended up losing the roof. Scotrail should make the bridges higher so that these collisions never happen again.

Surprisingly easy to forget your driving a decker especially if you usually drive a single deck nearly did it myself on Gypsypatch lane Bristol in 2008 but luckily suddenly remembered what I was driving jumped on the breaks just in time while exclaiming ‘Decker!!!’ Very loudly also I was lucky not being in service at that time unfortunately it was right outside the depot! Strewth did I get a ribbing from me mates. Had to check me skids tbh. Lol

That bridge seems to be incorrectly signed, as it looks larger than 8 feet 3 inches both in height and width. Single decker buses are usually 10 feet in height.

If you stop the video at 1:22 you will see what looks like a very wide white H on the bridge. Where the end bits point down is where the 8'3" height is and the H is the width of a normal vehicle, so it shows the maximum height of normal vehicle that can get through with care. The top of the arch is higher than that, so a slightly taller, but narrower, vehicle could get through, or equally a wider but lower vehicle could also get through.

Odd as all Stagecoach buses have a low bridge alert system fitted. Part of 1st use checks I believe or bus is VOR. Did driver go off route? Bus is their standard double decker. Camera's on board will show mistakes leading upto this.

The bridge at lanark works same as tunnels with lasers measuring height and then reads on giant roadside sign telling driver to turn left now into onto An A road immediately , guess the council or roads campaign don't cover all ,
