Your RV conversion is beautiful and the effort you put into it is remarkable , loved the joke about the cherries and reading the comments I don't know why people think they have the right to whinge about the solar issue . It's your bus your money your choice. they can go build what they like but I doubt they do.

I once had one of those. It was a N122 that I got built in Stuttgart in 1986, made for very small groups. It was equipped with 14 beds, a shower with 1000 litres capacity and a kitchen. Only 12 metres was allowed then. Sometimes I called it a "Nervoplan" ... But still I loved it and the people at Auwärter and Neoplan Sweden! Amazing to see how you built your double decker! I hope you will enjoy it for many years to come! But be careful with the trees though! The edges of the front windshield aren't well protected, I know that first hand... :-)

Great video. I have seen so many of these videos. And I have seen many! But I have to say you are by far my favourite. To start the double decker is the best choice I think. The reason is that you had a utility room. This is so key. If you reorganized that room and made it a bit tighter maybe you would be able to add more of what you needed. I will revisit the video just to be sure of what I am saying. But personally I really liked that you were honest, articulate. You actually went deep into your project. Many show what why have also, but it’s not deep like this. I really want to learn and do it myself. I won’t have such a problem with the building. I would have problems with the water, pumps, gas, electrical. All that stuff is what I don’t get. The utility room made this build for me the best bus. The bunk beds were nice f you have kids. But you could maybe in the future create something or turns into two beds instead of having two permanent beds. I love the seating area your wife was at on the second floor over the driver. That was genius to keep. It must really feel like you are flying sitting on that second floor. I was confused about something. There was the insulation and then all of a sudden they turned into windows? Did I miss something? Lol all in all I love your bus the most. I hope one day you can share with me the design you made. I would replicate your bus if this wouldn’t offend you. I would also take your advice on the good and bad after the 4 years. Also I would love to know the model and where I can find a bus like yours. Kind family people like you is what I like and I wish you the very best! Stay real stay raw, family comes first and it’s as simple as that. Have fun! I will check your other videos later on. I saw maybe 2 hours worth. 😉👍
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 Жыл бұрын
Wow, you really put some effort in this. Thank you! About the windows: the light blocking film just goes over everything, so from the outside it makes the insulation disappear - it's there, but you really can't see it anymore. The plan in Sketchup is for free available in the 3D Warehouse of Sketchup, the link to that is in the FAQ: sites.google.com/site/bigbuszz/faq---english I'd be honoured if you would replicate it. In fact, Maxim in Moscow is already doing exactly that. He bought himself a Neoplan, and as that one lacked the front stairs, he built it after my drawings. He is already working on it for several years and hopes to be ready next year... Thanks again, have a nice day, greetings from the Netherlands!

One thing I would've done is get rid of the staircase at the front of the bus. That way you would have more room for the dining area and the driver's seat on the first level and more room for the bunk beds on the second level. And it would also give you room for perhaps more equipment for like a diesel generator so the RV will rely more on electricity than gas making it more "green" and/or perhaps a central heater/AC unit to distribute heat and AC all over outlets in the RV instead of using local/mobile heating and AC unit. And that's another thing I would've considered installing, a central heating/AC unit and heating/AC outlets in the RV so more space can be freed up without those mobile heating or wall AC units. Overall it's a VERY impressive RV!! Gives it a whole new meaning to the phrase: You are always home no matter where you are :)
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Removing the stairs would actually have cost space. Now each room upstairs has its own stairs. If one of those stairs were gone, there'd had to to be some gangway upstairs to reach each room. Besides, you'd gain only a small amount of space, because both are placed above wheels. No, these two stairs are very convenient. Generators have a big disadvantage and that is the sound. Maybe in countries like the US where you have more space that wouldn't be a problem, but over here you most of the time are quite close to your neighbour, so best is to make no sound at all, especially at night..

Nice idea. I've got to think about that. Modern double deckers are in this part of the world (EU) not that popular for conversion, because they all are longer than 12 meters, and therefore can officially, on registration, never become a truck or RV. I've seen double decker RVs longer than 12 meters (I know of 3 of them), but they all are buses..

I have to admit it I would love to have a double Dekker bus, the height is problems on certain roads through the adjustments you made out of are all excellent I. The compost toilet, I understand your voice concern what about the one that goes into cassette the lower you to take and just dump in a regular bathroom there’s a little smell and she likes to deal with that. But mostly you don’t have to deal with the black tank I’m starting to see more and more the vehicles using it and I have to admit let’s face it, they won’t advertise it but you can dump Gray water pretty much anywhere without hurting the environment especially if you’re using soap that are natural. I am far from One of this people that are into savings environment which is important. But I love the fact of solar I love the fact of the cartridge or you can just dump. Other than your freshwater. I love the fact if you can go off grid. I gave you 10 out of 10. Nice job new subscriber

Thank you so much for your videos and your channel - bloody awesome RV man! Like many people I'm currently in the process of building my own RV and ended up finding you searching for inspiration and advice! A question regarding your AC system... Are you able to run your AC unit/s directly from your batteries without turning on your generator? If so, how long do you get out of your (880aH?). I'm in Australia so installing an AC unit I can run without the engine on is a must. According to the ACs voltage sticker it should draw about 800W (I imagine your small ones are similar). Currently I have purchased (but not wired up/installed) a 2000w inverter into 2x100aH lithium batteries. I also have a 2400w generator but only planned on using it in dire circumstances as I have 620w of solar on the roof too. Do you think 200aH (lithium) would be suffice to run my AC unit overnight? Or do you think I'm going to need an extra battery or 2?
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, can't help you with that. Because our AC's would flatten the batteries within hours, from the beginning I wired them as such, that they only will run with power 'from outside', be it from a socket from the campsite or the generator. But you should be able to do the math.. you just would have to know how much power the AC's would take at night.. The 200 Ah at 12 volts or 100 Ah at 24 volts won't cut it, I'm afraid. They are good for 2400 Watts, and I don't know about your AC's, but if they do 1000 Watts, the batteries will last 2.5 hours.. I know it can be done, but the installation I saw was equipped with car batteries - as I remember well, from a Nissan Leaf. You just need a LOT of power. I wish you all the best there down under!

Great plan...and enjoy you RV. One thing that may be matter to you( if you and your wife are not too tall.) is to consider changing the floor where you walk on(aisle)... lower it by 6-8" for the down stair, and same with the up-stair aisle at different location wrt the one down below...This may require some metal working, but will allow you to walk straight up on the aisles. Otherwise, not worth the trouble.
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Changing the floor would come first - is no option anymore. Besides that, that is something that is very difficult over here, because of regulations. If you would alter the floors, you are intervening with the structure of the vehicle, and that implies that you will have to prove, with calculations and drawings, that the structure afterwards will remain strong enough. There would be quite some engineering involved. I knew that, so I decided not to alter one thing in the 'steel' of the bus. I know of double deckers with uneven floors for walking up straight, one is even in one of my videos... wait... yes, that's this bus: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJjJlGaoqtaphdU But that one is manufactured like that (it was made as office bus). Two things you absolutely STILL must do: 1) Wall mount FOUR Mini Wood Stoves/Fireplaces [2 on each end on second floor, and 2 on lower floor.] Besides the added ambiance, they will provide sufficient heat offgrid in the Winter (who says you must vacation only in Summer?!!) Youll run connecting shared-chimneys up along the walls, and add small racks for wood. BTW, I dont get a dime for the link on this: cubicminiwoodstoves.com/ 2) Solar Panels. You wont likely pull off solar panels on the roof because youre at maximum legal height and would risk getting sheared off under bridges. I recommend (as painful as this will be) to insert them in the walled off sections of the bus. Also, they are starting to sell FLEXIBLE Solar Panels for the curved windows. You may want to do a combination of flexible and solid shaped panels. While theyll still work in the dark smoke film, it might double your output to have a lighter film reinstalled. Alternatively, you could have the roof cutout for them but that will present new challenges. Minimum 1,500 Watt Output with Lithium Battery Backup is recommended. Estimated additional cost: $5,000 But, if you dont add in the off-grid element here you will lose all "street-cred." ;) And you must avoid this! So I hope in a year we see a "gadget update" here for this. Thanks, and enjoy!
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 3 жыл бұрын
I thought about a wood stove, but decided against it for two reasons: 1. we don't need that much heating as we don't use the bus in winter and 2. they take an awful lot of space. Not the device itself, but you need to reserve space around it - it takes one square meter, downstairs and upstairs. That and the chimney that is not that easy to create, I dropped the idea. Solar panels would easily fit on the roof in between the hatches, those hatches stick out about 5 centimeter. Thanks for the comment, sorry for the late answer, but your comment winded up in the spamfilter of KZbin (because of the link in it, I guess..)

Trying to winterize a bus like that seems like a bit of a lost cause, way to many windows to insulate properly. Though it doesn't get as cold in NL, I went RVing in Vermont in the winter and no matter what you do something freezes, we had frozen blackwater and windows, not fun. So if you ever do any winterizing bring antifreeze and a hair dryer, or you'll have a bad time anyway.
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it would be difficult, but not impossible, I think. The windows are double glazed, so might be better insulated than the steel frame. That upper floor is one big thermal bridge impossible to insulate, that causes quite some energy loss - it will take lots of energy to keep the bus warm. Winter in the NL is not that harsh, but if it is OK for use in winter, you might want to take it to other parts of Europe, and that's another story.. In mountain areas it can get -20 C easily. If I would take it on (which I won't 😊), I would start with installing a composting toilet, because then you would lose the black water tank to insulate... It would be a better idea, if you want to use it all year round, to take it in winter to Spain or Portugal... 😁
@davidelliott5843
@davidelliott5843 3 жыл бұрын
I would have used a Combi "boiler" for heat and hot water. Skirting heating all around the external walls would avoid cold spots and condensation. Domestic pipes and radiators are reasonable cost. The original bus A/C might have been a good option with a generator engine to power it.

Looks great and it's nice to see an opinion after several years, just to see what improvement you could think of. Some questions : If the black water tank takes too much place and composting toilet would be 'bad' according to your wife, wouldn't incinerating toilet have been ok ? I just wonder, how much space do the three tanks take ? Because I wonder what kind of alternatives could be used apart from those. Composting or incinerating toilet -> no need for black water tank. But could a water recycling/purificating system have been used ? I saw some kind of showers with recycling system, and some RVs with full recycling/purificating systems, could that allow to reduce the size of both clean and grey water tanks ? Well, I love your RV, except for the ceiling heights, because I would be a bit too tall to be comfortable in there.
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 3 жыл бұрын
You might be right, but I don't know that much about a incinerating toilet, so I can't tell. Don't those need a lot of energy? I did look into a recycling system for the water, but skipped that quite fast. It takes room, energy, money and maintenance, and for what, if you can get water everywhere. It is a comforting thought, to have 600 liters of water with you, you just know is good. And about room: yes, you might be able to reduce the size of the tanks somewhat, but you'd need that for the purification system. Well, you get it... I'm sceptical about that. It adds something complicated for not that much gain. That said, I'm pretty convinced that a recycling system for the shower (water and energy) during showering will become interesting for vehicles like this. But the systems I saw up until now where rather big and expensive. That may take some time, but yes. Thank you.

Hoi 'Onrust'. Ron uit Wormerveer hier. Ten eerste geweldig gedaan, echt vakwerk!

Great video and review. Is there a legal restriction with height? Here in Australia motorhomes can only be a maximum of 4.3m high. Are you able to cut your roof and lift it for more head height? Considered a diesel heater? We're looking at one for our RV. They get good reviews here, but for most of Australia what we call "winter" Europeans would call spring.

Thank you. The road legal limit is 4 meters, that goes for any vehicle and for many countries in Europe. Ps all the best.
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 3 жыл бұрын

You are the third Russian I heard of who owns a bus - maybe you should meet online someplace (Facebook?) to exchange information? I wish you all the best with your bus! Good luck! Goeie vraag. Sir, good day. Awesome RV project, I have one question. You have removed AC system of engine, it's in item 6? Do u have any problems in cooling engine in summer?
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is de AC system that cools the inside of the bus in summer. That has nothing to do with the cooling system of the engine. The AC was powered by the engine: the engine powered a big compressor for the AC. That all was removed. To answer your question: no we have no problems with cooling the engine in summer (but we have had the radiator overhauled two years ago - but again, that has nothing to do with the AC system). FYI, I see your Russian name, and you might want to know that just a few minutes ago I added the Russian translation for this video (thanks to Alexey) - description and subtitles. Hi Ron, really love your conversion. We are currently living in a tiny house built on a semi-trailer but are thinking about buying and converting a double decker like yours. What was your reason for not connecting the upper and the lower deck, effectively gaining more headroom (but obviously also loosing room for space)? I guess I know the answer but would love to understand if there were some build-related reasons or if you just never considered it? Any thoughts and recommendations? I am asking because I am 1,94m tall and 1,85 ceiling height sounds like a pain... Greetings from Austria 👋

Wo bist du in Ö?

Solar just doesn't make sense if you're driving from socket to socket. Using external electricity -mostly- for free doesn't make it economical sensible, and because we don't use the bus intensively enough, it wouldn't make sense for the environment either.
@Onrust1
@Onrust1 3 жыл бұрын
Goede vraag.
