This game was perfect for my Bro and I. He liked Billy, I liked to play as Jimmy (same moveset I know, the color red made a big difference in fighting). But I liked Chin and he liked to play as Ranzou so we tore through this game with high fives all around! Man those were the days! Oh we also crushed Double Dragon Neon for old times sake :D

Especially since it was 2 player. It's funny that I was always more preferential to Co-op style games long before 'Multi-Player' was such a dominating term in video gaming lingo! ✌😎🖖

As a kid I loved this game but didn't really pay attention to the music it just sounded like regular video game music to me back then but as an adult 20 years later listening to this this is amazing for a 8 bit system wow the work that went into composing this was mind blowing cause you didn't realize as a kid that the nes was able to handle this kid of music thank you Japan for all the great music you guys did for my generation in the 90s

Lot of memories brought up by listening to this. Streets of USA is one of my all time favorite pieces in a video game. The Ubiquitous Danger piece from the interior of Japan is perfect to build tension leading to a really tough boss. The coliseum of Italy piece is so epic; I want to run up a mountain at full sprint. Egypt makes me want to punch something; that is among the most frustrating levels I've ever played. There were times playing single player when I would lose all my lives on the first two platforms in the ruins at the beginning of the level. I never did beat the game, but I did get to the mummies and got choked out in a hurry. Tough game.

We were very good at fighting video games with my brother. He was even better than me. But we could never be passing Egypt, even could not reach the boss. One day, before over a decade, I managed to reach the final boss alone. My brother was not home then. And I pushed start button to pause game, went street and called my brother "I REACHED THE BOSS IN EGPYT IN DDIII!". We came home back. I started the game and fought to her incredibly. And I won. THE END

Sylvester Olveda 3 is considerably more cohorent in action by the way. Still remember that Ranzou is fancy but his attacks are very weak - his blade is doing worse than others unarmed attacks and the it takes ages to kill some random enemy with his darts in Italy stage...

I would always combo his blade with the spin kick move.. his flip kick was strong.. I just enjoyed playing with him.. chin could kill with just a few standing punches but was super slow..

Took YEARS for me to pass the first freakin boss! Lol. China and Japan levels (except the spikes coming outta the floor) were easy. Then get destroyed by Ronin's flying leg in Italy. Wastes like half your energy and he can reach you halfway across the screen lol. Egypt wasnt bad till the mummies. Took forever to beat. Princess Noiram was a pain in the a** until I realized Chins iron claw made short work of her. Was fun playing though. Always liked Jim's song (the first boss), Ronin's song (the fourth boss) and the princesses song.

My thoughts exactly. I love the hand-drawn art of old games. They were meant to draw the attention of would-be buyers, so they were detailed and action-packed. I especially love how they made them feel like the protagonists were against overwhelming odds. Like here, the Lee bros are surrounded by dozens of enemies. Or like in TMNT3, where there's throngs of the Foot Clan around them. Or Bionic Commando.
