I don't care that others think this is too fast. I really enjoy the quick tutorial as I've been working in Psd for about 15 years and most tutorials are so painstakingly BORING. This is an excellent tutorial that is great to watch and doesn't bore me to death explaining every little thing about every tool/effect/etc. I love all your tutorials. A+ please keep em coming, really inspiring me to try new things!

@@PeterParkerSpiderMan940 that is perfectly understandable. I apologise if I came off as rude lol I was sick of the people who are intermediate saying that it's his fault. ***** Not exactly what he did, but after you copy the selected to a new layer you should still have the selection and then you can click back on the original layer, right click in the selection and select fill with foreground or background (assuming one is white), or if the selection isn't still there, when returning to the original layer to make it white simply select the whole canvas and proceed with the previous instructions. (Foreground and background colors are the little boxes middle left with colors in them)

+How To Gurus Hello, thanks for answering their questions and now mine, please. How can we erase away the new bg layer in 3:54? I mean, what are the keys used? please please muwaah
@HTGGeorge9 жыл бұрын
+Ras Miles Englisa Hi, here is what he did at that point. First he made a new layer above all other layers and added a light gray to dark gray gradient. Then he added a Layer Mask to that layer. You can do this in one step by adding a New Fill Layer (Layers Menu/New Fill Layer/Gradient). By default the new layer mask was filled with white which shows everything on the layer. Then he selected that layer mask by clicking on its thumbnail in the layers panel. Next set the foreground color to Black if it isn't already and select the brush tool with a large very soft brush. You can see how large the brush is that he uses by the circle showing as he paints. Finally paint black onto the layer mask using the large soft brush and it will reveal the layers underneath. The main thing to keep in mind with layer masks is that White shows and Black hides. So by painting black onto the layer mask he is hiding part of the gradient and letting the layers below show through. The big soft edge brush gives the soft edge effect on the layer mask. In my videos I try to stay away from keyboard shortcuts and do everything in a way that is visible in the video, a little slower maybe but easier to follow.
@RasEnglisa9 жыл бұрын
How To Gurus so he just used a paint brush with black to hide parts of the gradient. Thank you Sir. I am very glad.
@HTGGeorge9 жыл бұрын
+Ras Miles Englisa Yep, that's it. The nice thing about using a layer mask is that you can adjust the effect by either using white to show more gradient or black to hide the gradient. Allows you the ability to edit how much of the gradient is showing.

+Alex De Jong make sure you're on the right layer and make sure that the colour you want is being shown in the bottom left of the screen where the foreground and background colours are. The colour you want should be in front with another little colour box behind it. You could also use the eyedrop tool and then when you have your colour go to paint bucket and then try :) (also maybe your background layer is locked try that as well)

Zach Forbes wait what? I was able to get the layer mask the first time but the 2nd time (around 2:25) I can't get it. Help?
@zachforbes86218 жыл бұрын
Lex S you have to either ctrl and click or command and click the outline of the face so it's highlighted then click the landscape image and apply a layer mask

wow, this was the best tutorial ive seen so far. its not too fast, people are too slow. you explained everything in 5min which is great. i dont wanna sit thru 15min video that explains the same thing. and if people find something to fast just pause and repeat that part. i dont get whats so hard?.

Great idea for a creative photo I am going to try. Best thing about this tutorial over other tutorials? - Wasted no time in getting the production piece and instructions were thick and fast. Perfect for pausing if needed, but no waiting for an eternity for it to progress through the stages, just my kind of tutorial!
+Tornado Afterlife-TORAFT-Gaming-Music-Design Hi, ctrl+del fills the selected layer with the current background color and alt+del fills the selected layer with the current foreground color

when you're trying to do this in 2019 it doesn't help that his version is from 2014 and you're working on the version from 2018

Why this video was bad: 1. too fast. 2. You didn't show how you were doing things, you just said what you were doing. 3. You haven't helped people in the comments.

Austin Watermelon This was just a style of video for people with general knowledge of photoshop. I personally believe it's better than a 20 minute tutorial
