Here's my thoughts on having stacked two ferplast furat cages together! If you've done the same with two furat cages let me know what you think down in the comments! I hope you're all looking forward to seeing my new, bigger cage once it's set up next month!

@@outbound2672 usually the rat cage calculators aren’t always completely accurate so i tend to look at that as a maximum and if the calculator says for example 4 rats i would only put two in it.

Don't understand why you say it can only hold 4 when rat cage calculator says 7 giving either 2.5 cubic feet per rat which is generous and can give them 2 cubic feet which is the minimum recommended and fit 8. It also if dependent on how well you use the space
@Emiology
@Emiology 6 жыл бұрын
It does depend on how you use the space but don’t always trust that cage calculator. A single one of these cages in the calculator says you can have four rats in there, which just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Some people prefer to give their rats a bit more space and not stick to the minimum, but definitely this cage packed full of ropes and hammocks will be suitable for more rats than it if was more empty.
@tombowers790
@tombowers790 6 жыл бұрын
Stating that it depends on how the space is used i would have thought be quite important to inform people, especially for new owners and none of this was explained in the video. No where have I come across this opinion of needing more space than recommended by every rat society ive looked at so could you please explain why/how you came to this decision? As I think it would help people make an informed choice as there's already so much contradictory information anyway
@Emiology
@Emiology 6 жыл бұрын
It's more so common sense when owning any animal to offer them more space than the minimum if you can, as the minimum is only there as a guide line but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's something you should stick to, with any animal you should always aim to provide them with more than just what they require to survive, whether thats more space etc. Maybe you should look into joining some rat facebook groups, as these things are often discussed there, and I've seen many people ask on there how many rats they can house in their cages and often they are told to take the rat cage calculator with a 'pinch of salt'. I came to this decision through owning rats, and understanding how much space they use individually and how important it can be sometimes for them to be able to move away from their cagemates, and personally I would not keep more than 4, possibly 5 male rats in this cage at a push, because I prefer my rats to have more space, and I know many rat owners that share the same view. I'm sorry if it upsets you so much that I'm trying to promote rat owners to not overcrowd their animals and give them as much space as they can possibly provide, instead of encouraging people to always stick to the minimum.

Do you think it's necessary to put fleece on shelves? So they don't pee directly on the plastic, or no? I am getting my first rat boys!! Although I have researched and I know as much as I can, but you don't learn everything until you experience it!! xxx
@Emiology
@Emiology 6 жыл бұрын
If you're getting young rats, its more useful to take the shelves out and replace them with things like wooden ladders and ropes to encourage them to climb and be more active. You can just leave shelves like this bare, although you do end up having to wipe it everyday. The shape of the shelves that come with this cage in this video are an awkward shape so probably hard to cover with anything, some cages come with square metal shelves which are easier to cover, people use a range of things to cover them like fleece, newspaper, vetbed or puppy pads, all things to look into and decide which you'd prefer and the pros and cons of them :)

When pausing the video on the new cage that you ordered I discovered that it's the same cage that I have from the same place, and I'd just like to say that you may have missed out on a deal as I ordered mine a month ago and it was £150 (£10 cheaper) and it came with a food bowl a water bottle and 2 free back- nature-2-nature sample bedding bags. Pros: -Sturdy -Somewhat quiet -Has a gap at the bottom (To store food and bedding etc...) -Plenty of space -Large doors -Easy for older rats to get around Cons: -Vertical bars -Not as fun for baby rats (Can't hang as much stuff up on the bottom of the cage to jump) Honestly it's an amazing cage and I've struggled to think of cons for it. If you need more information the Instagram is @5_rats_are_escape_artists.

Hello! I love your videos and im a huge fan of your instagram rat account :) I was wondering if you have any video explaining what materials are best at absorbing rat pee and also the less smelliest ones. I'm interested in crafting some hammocs and bedding stuff for future rats, but I dont know proper materials. If you could tell me I would be eternally grateful :) Thank you a lot!

The door to this cage is dysfunctional. It is extremely difficult to open and close without distorting the bars and using a ridiculous amount of force. The company's video gives no indication of this. Had I known I would not have bought it. Its a lazy inept design.
