Double-Headed Steam Train to Shepparton! Steamrail Shepparton Weekend with K183 & K190

On the Kings Birthday Long Weekend 7th - 10th March 2024 Steamrail Victoria visited the northern Victorian city of Shepparton with steam locomotives K183 & K190 to conduct a series of steam shuttles between Shepparton and Tallygaroopna. In this video we chase the trip from Melbourne to Shepparton with the two K Classes, plus diesel locomotives T364 & T356 coming along for the ride.
We start the video at Yarraville where we see K183 lead the transfer train from Newport workshops to Southern Cross tender first. After boarding passengers K183 & K190 then double-headed for the trip north towards Shepparton. We see this trip at Moonee Ponds, Wandong, Broadford, and arriving into Seymour.
At Seymour the two locomotives detached from the train and were turned at the turntable to head up to Shepparton tender-first. This is so that the two locomotives could head back to Melbourne at the end of the weekend funnel-first seeing that Shepparton doesn't have a turntable. After the train departed Seymour we see it at Nagambie, Wahring, Murchison East, and Toolamba, before ending the video with a couple of scenes around Shepparton station.

Still wish I was there to see it in person but hey, at least I get to see more action of it in the video. I see they also had 1950s-1960s motive power for the run to Shepp and back down to Melbourne.

Nice coverage, Alex. I confined my effort to a couple of photos near Donnybrook. That was a close call for you at Broadford. Hopefully no expensive notices/photos in the mail in weeks to come. The shunts at Seymour and Shepparton were interesting. My eyebrow was raised when I saw the T Locos and Sleeping Car portion approaching from the Down End into the Freightgate siding after the whole train had shunted out at the Up end. Would be interested in hearing what happened in the interim.🙂😉🙂
