Went to Powderhorn this weekend and the tide was real low. It got so windy late morning as well. But at least I got to see where some shell it is for the summer and located a marsh I had not seen before.
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
This was shot on friday, and saturday I was in a marsh in the northern part of the bay with MagicYaker. The reds were eating early, but the bit died when the wind hit about 20mph. We both landed two slot reds, and were outa there by noon.

Nice, was MagicYaker in his ATAK 140? He produces good content too.

Awesome videos man, been fishing POC and Rockport area for 30+ years, I recognize a lot of that area just by noticing landmarks on the horizon in your vids. Can't wait to get down there this summer and rip some lips

Went down to Powderhorn on Saturday and it was super shallow. Fished the marsh and almost got stranded when the tide went out fast. Hit a few rat reds and one 24". Also hooked into a 24-30 inch Alligator Gar, nice fight.... I had almost gone over to POC....... Winds were brutal!

Sick, bro!!! Hey... what is the water temp over there right now? The reason I ask is I'm in north east Florida and it's around 78 water temp here already. I don't see reds hanging out on the flats anymore like that unless there is plenty of flooded grass to keep them cool. Does it depend on the water temp and time of day if you can find them on large flats like that? Seems like you always catch them in super shallow water.
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Our waters are in the low to mid 70's right now. I'm not sure how much they care about heat. I've caught'em crawling at midday with 100ºf air temp and about 95ºf water temp on sun scorched flats. I'm convinced the only thing they care about it filling their stomach.
@igououtdoors74147 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I guess it still all depends on where the bait fish are more comfortable. Lol
@elijahchapa46247 жыл бұрын
sweet video! you make it look so easy ? where did you get those lures ? and where in port o connor do you fish ? i am from corpus christi and it is tough finding the reds down here!
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I get the lures from www.slayerinc.com but I've heard that Dick's sells them. Check out the jigheads also. I just cruise the shoreline and keep moving until I see one. If I spook one I just slow down but keep moving with confirmation they're in the area. (once they're spooked they probably won't eat for 10-15minutes)

@ Trailchaser What type of setup do you normally fish with in terms of rod/reel, lures and conditions ?
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
The rods used are Outcast Mamba, and Outcast Texas Slam. The reels are Shimano Sienna 2500, and KastKing Sharky II 3000. The lures are from Slayer Inc. "Gold Digger S.S,T., Bounty Hunter S.S.T., and Tiger Bait S.S.T. Firetail" The only conditions I won't fish in: Lightning, and winds over 20-25mph.

Do you think sight casting is the most effective means to catch redfish is port o connor? I've tried at Charlie's but the grass hinders my ability to get my lure to the redfish. I'm plan on trying to go to the fishing center in poc soon and try to sightcast some reds. I've found a couple of good lookin spots and look forward to tryin them out . Any tips?
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
Sight casting is definitely the best way in my opinion. I just keep moving until I see the next one. The more ground/water you cover the more fish you will run across.

what's up Chaser I'm an older subscriber and I have not really seen some your new vids.I don't know if you've answered this already but are you going to return to making bike vids?
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
I had too many near death experiences on my bike since moving to Texas. In Arkansas the roads were too twisty and hilly for texting and driving to be possible. Here in Texas all the roads are straight and boring so everyone stares at the phone while driving. I decided I would like to be around when to see my kids grow up. Sorry, but there will most likely never be another motovlog on my channel.

I usually just throw the anchor so I don't drift while dealing with fish I caught.
@FarmerBG7 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason why you measure your fish by length and not weight?
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
The "slot" for redfish in Texas is 20"-28". Also, I'm in kayakwars where the only thing that counts is the measurement. I'm glad I don't have to weigh my fish. Scales don't last very long in and around saltwater.

Why do you leave your drag so loose? Just curious
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
I had too many breakoffs with the drag set right by normal standards since I started using a little looser drag I haven't have any reds break off. Funny thing is, those damn ladyfish can still break off. Well the really big 20"+ ones can.
@lukenukeemoutdoors7 жыл бұрын
if you had to take a guess...how many reds would you say u have caught in your life?
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
If we're including undersize, I couldn't begin to imagine. If we're talking slot reds, I caught about 300 last year. But that was an epic year. I pretty much fished full time. Here's a list from March-mid December: www.kayakwars.com/angler-catches.php?year=2016&anglerId=5506

TrailChaser ok cool I have the same kayak, my only question is where do you put fish when you keep them
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
I just keep them on a stringer until I get back to the truck, but if I'm fishing a couple miles away and planning to keep'em I bring a cooler bag or my small ice chest. Dragging fish long distances is a real drag. lol
@antoniosannicandro49457 жыл бұрын

@jakegustafson81977 жыл бұрын
Why do you use spinning rods more than bait casters
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
Jake Gustafson Because in my opinion they are much better for making precise/accurate short distance casts. They are also much better for casting light weight lures/baits into the wind.

*sigh* Didn't catch anything for my bday today but this compensated a bit I'm hooked 4 life
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
Happy Birthday again,(on the right day this time. lol) Make the drive down sometime and I'll put you on some reds. In the meantime, practice short but extremely accurate casting. Take advantage of windy days to try honing in at different angles. Might look funny if you're in a park. It will vastly improve your catch if you are finding them in really shallow water. You usually only get one or two tries before they spook.
@ElJuniorMartinez7 жыл бұрын
TrailChaser you should try redfish magic soft plastics they work great ive caught reds and trout with them you should get a pack of the soft plastics
@teddybravo34347 жыл бұрын
TrailChaser Thanx (again lol) and actually I would have to drive up i believe I live near south padre island and it's funny but I do actually go outside and practice my casts my wife makes fun of me for it she bought me an ice chest For my bday I told her it was pretty small she replied catch a big fish first then I might buy you a bigger one 😒😂
@TrailChaser7 жыл бұрын
Redfish Magic are great search lures. I throw them in dirty water when I know the reds are around but can't actually see them. In shallow clear water they just spook the reds more than anything.
