Double Life #6: Chasing Wind

Double Life is an odd mix of a Social and PvP Minecraft game started by Grian. Players are thrown into a tiny world with almost no rules, except survive as long as possible.
In this version players have 3 lives that are linked to their soul bound partner which is chosen randomly at the start of the game. Red Players are given the goal of killing all the other players in the game.

I have been thinking that all season. They are the same, but different in complimentary ways. I know Etho has said before he likes collabs, but hates how hard it is to schedule time. The approx 6 hour time difference between these two won't help that situation. I would "settle" for a classic Etho + VintageBeef + PauseUnpause series.

Yeah, IIRC there have been mods that make portals link in the most common-sense method, but Mojang probably won’t implement such a mechanic because doing so would break portal fast-travelling gizmos. While they’re janky, those fast-travelling setups are a neat way of using redstone timing for a late-game purpose, which the game could benefit from more of.

Yep, doing dangerous stuff together in general seems like a mistake in this - if you're apart one of you can can heal from food while the other is in danger, but when you're together you'll often just die twice as fast. Even actual PvP is probably safer with one person eating from afar while the other actually engages.

It’s the little things in this series like in jokes about ladders, all the honey I’m home jokes, everyone automatically considering Pearl a red, everyone laughing together about horses, etho setting off shriekers just bc he doesn’t like shifting. I love the ultimate sense of camaraderie and friendship everyone has no matter what side they were on. Etho bringing up Cleo despite her being an enemy and their unlikely friendship, Joel being so bloodthirsty but also the first to say gg and good job when he’s killed, the courtesy of leaving some gear behind for the recently deceased and rarely a grudge held when they’ve declared war over much smaller things. There was an excellent balance of the stakes feeling very real at moments and then times when everyone had to laugh at their situations. What a great series, and how wonderful to see new duos and interactions. I hope etho had as much fun playing as we all did watching! Boat boys forever

After watching almost all POVs for the series, I really appreciate Etho’s editing. Keeping in more discussions, more of the jokes and context for the entire session. I often watch other peoples episodes expecting a joke/comment and it’s been edited out, so I always feel that we get a better sense for the series and relationships from Etho’s vids! Also love how both Joel and Etho were like “oh great! It’s YOU” but turned out to be awesome soulmates! Double life will always be my most favorite of the Life series, can't believe this series wasn't scripted, there were so many poetic moments! Ranchers getting their final revenge with warden killing grian, boat boys burning like their ship, even the fact that impulse's death message said he was killed by bdubs 😅 Double life for me isn't about who won, it is about the epic story and amazing chemistry these pairs have with each other!

I will just say, should definitely have a ban on trapping nether portals, it just seems cheap and since the map is so small very easy to link up to other peoples portals. Anyway now that rant is over, such a great series, you and Joel had such good chemistry. Looking forward to another season.

Yeah generally I would support a ban on trapping portals in any sort of survival PVP game like this. It's technically possible to get out of, but it's extremely difficult compared to how easy it is to plop a lava bucket on a portal. It's also super unsatisfying to everyone when a portal trap gets a kill because they're so cheap.

Idea for a new season! "Secret Life" Players are given 3 lives to start. At the beginning of the season everyone is given one specific player at random who they are assigned to kill. They don't have to kill this player BUT, if the do, they will gain an extra 2 lives. Think boogeyman mechanic meets the game Assassin. Once red however, the prize drops to only 1 extra life. Lives can be gifted to other players, same as season 2.
