I would never suggest having surgery on your back unless it was absolutely necessary. I have done exercises and seen therapists and chiropractors most of my life. In 2007 it was initially believed that I had pulled a muscle only after an MRI was it discovered that I had a Congenital Spinal Stenosis and 2 ruptured discs. After multiple Steroid injections, 2 laminectomies, and 2 dozen physical therapies over the past 16 years I had a TLIF. At 65 I do not feel like I can run a marathon or stand all day long I can make groceries, do chores around the house and play a bit with Grandkids. In my case it was a method of last resort and I am thankful for it.

Btw, not to compare with anyone but the successful resolution of Mt TLIF surgery was the result of over 8 1/2 hours and it is NOW 1,1/2 years after. I walk on an exerciser several times a day but continue to have gastrointestinal issues as well as stability problems. I am expecting my recovery to take at least another year before I am at 75 - 80%

I had mine in December 2023, I do recommend it Highly. I could not walk into the hospital. My situation seemed to be a VERY extensive repair taking over 8 hours, 30 minutes BUT I AM WALKING and hope to bike by end of Summer. Neuropathy and recovery times vary based on so many things. Extenuating circumstances such as weight of the individual, ability and desire to be motivated to exercise immediately or gradually. My recovery has taken longer as I am overweight and live alone.

I don’t know if anybody that’s had this type surgery to ever be pain or disability free. I was a firefighter for 48 years and watched lot of firefighters get back injuries and have spinal surgery. Every one was forced into retirement due to pain and disability. I’ll never allow junk to be screwed into my spine

I’ve had numerous herniated discs and constant and extremely severe sciatica pain for close to 15 years. The pain was so bad that my wife sometimes would have to help med get dressed and I’m only 38. I didn’t sleep an entire night for well over 10 years. I had TLIF from S1-L4 one month ago and since the second i woke up i haven’t really experienced any real pain. And my back mobility is already waaaaay better than before the surgery. But I’m very lucky because my ortophedic surgeon has done well over 4000 spinal fusions and knows his shit so to speak.

12 years later and still ihaving nerves burned out.t. Do Not have surgery unless youabsolutely must . Use a Neurosurgeon not an Orth. Even when repaired your life will never be the same.

Your right about not having surgery unless it's a must, I had a simple surgery to remove ingrown hair near my tailbone. Biggest mistake of my life, was in pain for years after, should have left it alone.

How old were you 12 years ago? Are you guys saying don’t do the TLIF? I’m 66 and a very active teaching tennis pro. I can barely walk now due to L4/L5 spinal stenosis (severe) 1 Neurosurgeon says Lamenectomy with Fusion the other says only Lamenectomy. What are your opinions? Will I ever be able to run (within the confines of a tennis court) again or???

What a dumbass design. It wrecks the articulation of the spine. Nothing but pain for the rest of your life. I wonder if the designer wants this in their spine , I doubt it. Criminals

Those needing this are already in a ton of pain and have usually tried all other approaches. For some this is the best and only option.
