Upon searching for an old Webco BMX frame for reference on a new frame build project, I accidently stumbled on the bike that started it all!!

So awesome man! I can tell how much that means to you. Just having it in your shop again is truly a BMX miracle and I have no doubt you'll pimp that bad boy out. Congrats on the recovery dude!

Thanks Steve! I'm pretty excited to figure out this one (or at least make it look and ride like I envision). It's definitely going to be a learning experience for sure!

what happened to your 75 webco bmx restoration?
@JoeyMesa6 жыл бұрын
Funny you should ask because your timing is perfect! I just picked it up from being repainted and put on the decal set. It looks really good! I'll try to put up a video and show the results later today. Thanks for the question Simon!

do u have any videos of u straightening, fixing, cleaning, primer, paint, how do u know exactly where the placement of decals go?Also are you still going to make a modern version? I would like to learn how to build an 80's looptail bmx like the 80's Hutch pro racer, either by making one from scratch or taking a similar 4130 chromoly frame and welding in the looptail tubing and other parts etc but I don't have the tooling or the know how perhaps you can build me one? let me know thanks simon

Hello, I just uploaded a video of the finished frame. I've included a couple photos of how I straightened the frame, but I never documented welding up the cracks or welding in the hole I drilled in the brake bridge some 40 years ago. My friend Brent who painted the bike has a media blasting cabinet that the frame fit into, so he stripped all the old paint off and did a good job color matching the paint, further smoothing out some bad welds and blemishes, but left a few of the original battle scars.I added his contact info in the video description if you're interested. As far as decal placement, I looked up lots of google images of old survivor frames from this time period and while the placement order was consistent, the spacing was all over the place, so I just went with what looked right to me. I've got the new version 99% complete other than a BB I'm waiting for. It's going to be a sweet bike, but I had to kind of rush the fabrication at the end due to loosing my garage space (we're moving and it's going to be a 2-4 years before I have a workshop to build stuff), so I didn't have time to replicate the front gusset.

saw the video, loooks awsome is that a candy red ? it looks very similar to a mongoose motomag frame. I would to buy or get made some looptail dropouts, do you know where i could get some?
@JoeyMesa6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's very candy apple reddish. I got the modern version frame and fork painted the same color as well and definitely fits the time period! There should be a metal fabricator local to you with a milling machine that could replicate any of the older BMX dropouts. As far as companies that will do custom BMX stuff, you might try www.sandmbikes.com/ or maybe truetorch.com/bikes4.html Those are the only ones I can think of off hand.
