Coincidentally, I had a Facebook fight on double spaces yesterday when I expressed my surprise at the people under 40 I encounter who still double space even though they have never used a typewriter. It got a bit heated.

I use to use 1 space, in college I was forced to use 2. Now I mix it up to mess with people. They're like what the eff.

My sister, who grew up in China in the early 80s, learned to type on a typewriter. She was editing my essay and I noticed she went and added 2 spaces after every one of my periods to "correct it." She was taught 2 spaces and I was taught 1. Random fact about punctuation: I think British english puts a period outside of quotations while we Americans nestle the period inside quotes. "the Brits". "Mericah."

Nope. Period inside when quote contains a full stop and when quotation marks indicate emphasized words or phrases which are just a portion of the body of written work. Also, random fact; don't preface something of which you aren't certain as to it's veracity with a term indicating facts. It is like saying "random fact; i think aliens exist.". Finally, it is spelled America. Have a nice day!

Brad Taylor Me too! I learned how to type out of my dad's old high school typing manual. It definitely said 2 spaces.

Dammit. Just go right ahead and make the Vampire Weekend reference redundant. For what it's worth, I am generally under the impression that it's one space on a computer and two on a typewriter. Also, prescriptivists are shitheads. OED and Merriam-Webster are the two definitive English dictionaries, and they're both radically descriptivist. A particular word or construction may be incorrect *for a formal register*, but that's about it.

I was really hoping from the title of this one that it was going to be about insane astronauts. Like, double as insane as a typical astronaut. Gotta say, a little disappointed. Bring back the animation.
