Your video and explanation are so perfectly clear and easy to follow. You go slowly enough so that I can follow and you don't say a bunch of extraneous junk that has nothing to do with the pattern. I am really impressed with your channel and I have subscribed. Thanks.

Beautifully shot and explained. I've never heard of this stitch before -- it's gorgeous! I've always done "double stockinette" that comes out as the "knit" side on one side, and the "purl" on the other-- just like regular stockinette stitch, only much thicker and warmer. (And done with worsted and large needles, it looks like ribbing on one side, and garter on the other -- very useful for warm hat bands.) So this was a revelation, and I can't wait to try it. Thank you!

This is AMAZING Thank you so much! I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to do a reversible scarf with a pattern on both sides that didn't involve having to do double knitting or brioche - and this is perfect. Its just that little bit easier than trying to remember what to do for double knitting!

I just happened to be poking around KZbin, and found your channel. I've been knitting for many, many years and have never tried this technique(too intimidated). You make it look so easy! You lady have just earned a new sub! Along with the fact that I have kept my brushings from my cats' fur(I didn't think anyone else was as weird as me keeping the fur in baggies, with hopes of doing something with it one day, lol!

I really like the way you move the yarn on your fingers! Can you do a video on that? Plus for this stitch, it looks like you're alternating between the purl and the knit stitch, am I right? Again, thank you for this prettty pattern! Man! I can't get over how you move that yarn on your left hand---that's so neat and organized!!

Thank you! This was beautifully shot, and as always, crystal clear in the explanation. The lighting, the choice of yarn, made it very clear and easy to see exactly what you were doing. Your film technique has evolved to be even more worthy of your skills as a knitter and a teacher. Coincidence: I'd just been watching a few videos on tubular cast-on and bind-off techniques, and they would look fabulous with this stitch, because it's the stitch you use to set up for both the cast-on and bind-off techniques. I can't wait to try this! I've learned another stitch called "double stockinette", which is different -- looks like knit on one side, purl on the other, and is also very thick. It's what I've been using on every hat band ever since I learned it, because of the extra thickness over the ears. But I think this would be even better for that purpose. I've seen this stitch in other projects, and have never been able to figure out what it was called or how to do it. Thanks so much for this!

..as well as a blanket. I've been looking for a pattern that would make a warm blanket and this looks like the one. I hope I can find some complimentary stitch patterns to add a little design variation to the blanket. Not sure how easy it'll be too adapt other patterns, like cables, given the thickness of the double stockinette.

I am so glad I found this tutorial. @_@ I'm new to crochet/knitting and I thought I'd start off my knitting career (har har har) with a scarf made in the round. It took me four days of screw-ups to figure it out, and then the slow, dawning realization that I hate knitting in the round. I used your tutorials to learn how to do a simple rib stitch with slipping the first stitch (purl), and I've been working on that. What I REALLY wanted, was a way to get the double-sided stockinette stitch without having to knit in the round, and voila! I guess I didn't know what to search for because I'd gone crazy trying to find a stitch like this, and stumbled on it randomly tonight, haha. So excited! Thank you so much for your videos, they're so informative for a newbie like me. :) What type of cast-on did you use for this? Does it matter? I was wondering which cast-on left the best bottom edge. And is it easy to switch colors with this stitch?
@iknitwithcatfur
@iknitwithcatfur 7 жыл бұрын
I just used the standard long tail cast on. I don't like working with more than one strand of yarn, too fussy for me. If I want more than one color, I use variegated or self striping. Much simpler for me :-)

Is this double thick? And would one be able to almost separate the thicknesses into two sides?
@iknitwithcatfur

Yes, it makes a double thick fabric. It is attached around the edges, if you pull in the center, the two pieces aren't connected.

Thank you for this! I have got the stitch pattern well into my brain but I only get so far and somehow - due to butterfly brain - always get something wrong, sadly. I'm a fairly new-ish knitter. My Nana taught me ages ago so I know cast on, knit, purl, and cast off, but! I have unravelled this so many times needing to start over. I am sure there is a way to repair a missed or dropped stitch without needing to go back to nothing and starting over...or at least unravel the row with the mistake and place the loops back onto the needle? Can you please, please do a video[s] on how to do one or both? I tried to unravel to a point and replace loops on needle but made a dog's dinner of it! I would be ever so grateful if you could help! If not, I'll crack on the way I'm going. With any luck the scarf I want to make will be ready by winter next!

No, this stays relatively flat; since you have stockinette on both sides, it kind of cancels out the curl.

@iknitwithcatfur

For this I recommend binding off in pattern as shown in the video; for the two color double knitting I recommend Lucy Neatby - she has classes on Craftsy and she also has a DVD, which you can purchase at her website. It is packed with double knitting info. www.lucyneatby.com/index.php?specific=1000058 I know she has videos here on YT, you may find bind off info on her channel.
