The Double Take mirrors from www.doubletakemirror.com are very popular with dual purpose and adventure riders here in Australia. I've been using the enduro version on my DR650 as we often get into some gnarly terrain. These Doubletake mirrors are almost indestructible and can be easily folded away when you get into some serious offroad work. And the RAM mounts mean they just move when they hit an obstacle instead of breaking. One of the guys has a KTM 950 and got a pair of the adventure style mirrors from Doubletake, as the more compact style means they are more stable at highway speed. They still can be folded away but are designed for riders doing more road and adventure riding than gnarly offroad riding. On many adventure bikes, breaking a mirror can also mean needing new master cylinders for your clutch or front brake, so these mirrors can pay for themselves very quickly because they fold instead of snapping their mounts. Doubletake said they wanted to develop an indestructible mirror that could be folded away and also provide good visibility to the rear and the adventure model hits the nail on the head in all three respects. Plus, there's a lifetime warranty although this doesn't apply to the glass. I had the longest arms on my enduro mirrors so there was some vibration at certain revs, but the extra stability with the adventure version provides a very clear reflection at all times. The Doubletake mirrors are expensive, but if you transfer these from bike to bike then they can be viewed more as a long term investment that should last you decades. After two years of exhaustive testing the Double Take Mirrors get the thumbs up from us for adventure riding or dirt riding. We haven't been able to break or bend them in thousands of miles in all sorts of terrain and stacks. Expensive but highly recommended! Great for use on the DRZ400 or DR650 for replacing those very heavy stock mirrors. We like to get off the beaten track on our adventure rides but the unfortunate downside was breaking mirrors on a pretty regular basis. I'd seen the Double Take mirrors before but regarded them as out of my price range... but eventually I broke enough mirrors to know it was worthwhile getting a set, If they were indestructible as claimed. Apart from being almost unbreakable the other handy thing was being able to fold them out of the way within seconds, even when riding. The Double Take mirrors use the well-known RAM mounts - very strong but flexible, and depending on whether I'm commuting on the highway or riding single track I can pick the best position easily without even having to stop. The Double Take mirror arms are available in three lengths, I've got the longest due to my height. They do vibrate a bit and this may be because I got the longest parts but the image is still relatively clear and very usable. At first I did find the mirrors would move slowly in at highway speeds but they seem to settle in after a month or so and stay put the last few years. Are Double Take mirrors unbreakable? Well they'd have to believe the most unbreakable on the market, I've had some pretty major hits, the only issue was in one the alloy thread stripped where it screws into the handlebar mount but Double Take kindly sent me at a new one free of charge. My thoughts? These are worth the money for adventure riding or dirt riding and you can just buy two extra ball mounts and swap them between your bikes. And Double Take mirrors are a good long-term investment as you can just put them on the new bike when you sell the old one.

Yes! first like and comment! Thanks for the honest review, I was defiantly wondering how well these performed compared to the original double take, and good info about the longer extension vibration.

I bought the adventure mirrors with the medium length arm for the drz and they are awesome the clarity is superb. best purchase you can make for a bike the only critique I have is there isn't a way to properly torque down the ram ball to the handle bars
@samuraidoggy

6 years late response but anyway. You can use the RAM arm to torque the ball. Tighten it up to the ball and rotate the ball with that arm, gets much more torque than with just fingers. Also, recommend putting some Loctite to the bolt.

Been looking for better mirrors for my Africa Twin, the stock ones are alright but not quite wide enough to get completely around my shoulders. Hopefully these will allow me to put the mirrors in a better spot and get a better viewing angle.

I have the adventure mirrors with the medium length arm for the drz they are the best first purchase you can make for a bike. my only critique is there is no way to torque down the handle bar ram mount using a wrench or spanner

Great review. I'm trying to decide between the Adventure style and Enduro style for my 500 EXC. When I go off-roading, I'll take the mirrors off completely, so it seems like Adventure would be better. The long RAM stalk looks ugly but I like the shape of the adventure one...

I got the ADV style ones for my 500 and they are great. They look so much better than the circular ones and have a better FOV. Except, mine were stolen a couple weeks later. Yeah, someone stole my freaking mirrors.

Have been subscribed for a good while now, and love the vids - Oz is a beautiful land. Still trying to grow enough chest hair to warrant a DR650. Can you recommend a good cream? Thanks again sir!

It would be good if an indestructible mirror bracket could be made but probably would be more cost if the material were to be flexible as durable like a rubber tree for example.

I have used a set of these and they are great. only negative is that like a lot of other ram mount items if you stop in town/cities unattended mirrors may get stolen as my friends have found twice so far.

+Steven , +Adventure Oz .., I am wondering if drilling a hole through the ram mount and installing a bolt tightened just tight enough to NOT allow the stem to be removed from the ram mount BALL , but loose enough to still allow to stem to be adjusted ?

I know it's been a while since you've made this video, but I would like you to try the Rottweiler Performance quick flip mirror mounts and some $30(USD) Amazon bar end mirrors (total cost $60USD). And compare them to the Ram.

I have installed it on my Suzuki V-strom 650, but the mirror shakes a lot even at low speed.. any idea why ? I have a pivot handlebar riser installed, gps bar installed.. could those be a reason ?

I don't really know. They will vibrate more than stock mirrors... I think it's basic physics. A lightweight mirror will vibrate. It's why stock mirrors tend to be so heavy.

a few guys say theirs move a bit on rough ground rex, but you can lightly sandpaper the ball ends etc for more grip, or cut up bits of a bicycle inner tube to put in. no problems for us though.
@KiwiMark67
@KiwiMark67 7 жыл бұрын
I put some heat shrink tubing over my mirror ball ends (the other ball that screws into the existing mirror mount is rubber and the arm grips it well) and my mirrors definitely do NOT move on rough ground, unless they actually hit that rough ground of coarse.

The mirrors aren't necessarily the expensive part.... It's the ram parts/mounts that add up... $10 USD for a ball on a threaded stud yikes!.
@crosstrainingadventure
@crosstrainingadventure 7 жыл бұрын
yup... and it's easy to strip that thread if you overtighten them. or at least it was in the early days when the thread was just alloy.

Thinking of these for a RTW bike .., what stops some thieving prick (besides sheer luck) from stealing these mirrors , as it looks like this can be done in 2 seconds flat without any tools needed ?

Double takes are way over priced. You can get just as good of quality folding mirrors that fold and take a beating for $10 in the US.

www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002302KK8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Ken Sean 970510 There are other brand clones too. I have friends with the double takes and they seem like great mirrors but I'm a cheap skate and I go down a lot. These have been working well for me. They have a funky set of nuts to adjust them but once you figure that you they are easy to stop from wiggling.
