i've found a really good way to practice is to thumb up instead of mute slap. quads is a good example: instead of slap - palm mute - muted slap - pop, try slap - palm mute - muted thumb up - pop. it's a good way to get used to letting your thumb rest after the slap. KEvron

This guy does such a fantastic and thorough job of explaining things. I mean you really couldn't ask for better instruction for anything regarding bass guitar.

Thank you! The vast majority of players have hyper extended thumbs that form a kind of hook and give them (what I see as) a big advantage to double thumbing. I don't have those kind of thumbs. And neither do you which is why this vid was very helpful for me!! Again thank you!

I have been struggling with this for about a week. This video told me the one thing the that others didn't.... That is what part of the thumb to use on the up stroke . Thank you

Love this one. Looks easy while I can practice double thumbing and the riff reminds me of good old rage against the machine.

Jesus, buddy thank you so much for your lessons. I tried it so many times and watched all ur double thumbing tutorials. No iam able to get some decent sounds out of it. Also sometimes i have a nice snappy upstroke. Its hard to control at the beginning but i just keep going since the upstroke sounds not the same at all time it kinda have a charme aswell. You are a great teacher. I really appreciate your work and how you teach technique with great exercise to built up from. If you ever visit germany, lets drink a beer together. Thank you so much :)

Very helpful video. Thank you. It's really precise and the exercise is progressive, so it makes it easier to learn. As said by others, the thumb up technique is probably the more difficult part to get, but once you get the right position and the good hook, it works great. Thanks

Many thanks for your videos! You really know how to get across easily how to play even difficult stuff. It helps to hang your own goals higher and practice until you nail it.

Great video for learning a new technique, really took your time with the riff and explanation. Great job, I will definitely check out some more. edit:I would add a statement on exactly where you are making contact between the thumb and string on the down stroke, you are very detailed in the upstroke and the down stroke could use that same attention (i.e. edge of thumb, tip etc)

Aaaargh, it took me year to work on my bouncing slap and now I have to start over... Anyway thank you very much for the explanation, I was starting to think my thumb was not normal since I couldn't get a slap sound. Great tips thank you very much

I can barely get any sound out of the upstroke. I'm still going to practice it though.

Hey Mark, if you play the Down Stroke you hit the string with your thumb bone or with the dome/kupper? Greatings from Germany

Hey, I just watched your video on building pinky strength and I had a question. Whenever I try to apply more pressure to the string my pinky finger "collapses" and the joint goes flat. I'm trying to figure out how I can stop that and was wondering if you had any tips.
@ralfgeollegue52724 жыл бұрын
try changing your arm position. i sometimes do that so my pinky wont fall flat.

I’m writing this comment as I’m watching so maybe it’s covered but I’m having trouble with double thumbing and string crossing like if I go down on A string and want to come up on E string or any other combination that is similar to my example
