My American performer precision Bass, which is passive makes all my pedals react much better than my Sterling active bass. I have compared the output on both my bass and the Sterling, which is active is just slightly louder at full volume than my Fender American performer passive bass. If you have on your pedelboard a preamp , what’s the point of having an active bass ? I will be working in modifying my Sterling bass to make it hybrid, active and passive with toggle button or a flip switch.

One of these days, can you show us a very difficult music? One I've aways have trouble playing is "Colorado Bulldog" from Mr.Big.

@@JacksonLambProSpook Difficult is a relative term. All depends on your level. I’ve already covered a ton of stuff that people seem to usually think of as ‘difficult’. Just look back through the vids on the channel. There are a load of Les Claypool, Victor Wooten, Billy Sheehan, Stu Hamm and Jaco bass lines. But like I said those lines (including Colorado Bulldog) are only difficult if you can’t do them. By the same token I could give a supposedly simple bass line written out in standard notation to Billy Sheehan and he would be stumped. He couldn’t play it. Like I said. It’s all relative. Different people find different things difficult!

Well explained. When I've jammed with people for the first time, not knowing what they want, how they play and what the feel is, always stick to the root and fifth until you get better acquainted 😁

"if you want to do music as a living" is a big qualifier. Id expand it to "or full time study". But, if you're doing it for fun please slap and tap away. Slap in particular is something you can bring into your band for most genres (it doesn't just work for disco octave pops). Part of why slap became big in funk and disco was because of people learning it because it's fun and incorporating it into their band playing. We need more slap in music!

Just one point: this line is not syncopated. I also really WANT to play it as syncopated 16th notes, but it is most definitely straight 16th notes.
@talkingbasslessons

The lead line is straight. The bass line is swung. Heavily. Listen to the extracted bass line. It's why something sounds slightly odd when you play along.

@@talkingbasslessons Fair enough, I did listen to the isolated track and most of it is syncopated. It seems to my ear that that first 16th note run up the blues scale is in fact not syncopated, though the rest of it is. It's actually quite interesting if I'm being honest... For the record, this is the isolated bass track I listened to: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZbbnp-FnN2AqdEsi=L1LXlUDtXzWUoI9K&t=64 Or am I just crazy? 🤣

@ I think you might also be getting confused with terminology. Syncopation is not swing. They are totally different concepts. Syncopation is the accenting of usually weak beats. That’s nothing to do with swing.

Lots of on-line bass courses try to sell you on shortcuts. Mark doesn’t do that. His courses are geared to make you the best bassist you can be. This particular free course is seminal. There is an incredible amount of information packed into it. I’ve spent quite a bit of time working on the suggested exercises and for me it has taken me up a level. For a free course, there an amazing amount of solid, useful information given away. Thanks Mark. Talking Bass paid courses are just as good.

I just got back from GC. Played a few fender precisions. I have a Squire 70’s precision with the maple neck. Other than a tiny bit of weight, I cannot tell the difference, or why someone would spend 800 when you can get the same bass for 350. Also played the pro 1500 precision, zero difference from the less expensive one. I don’t get it
@talkingbasslessons
@talkingbasslessons 7 күн бұрын
@@joelballard4955 Basses don’t “feel” or “play” better based on price. If they did then everyone would be aiming for more expensive basses. For example, a vintage 1962 Pbass might be 20 times the price of a brand new Squier. But the Squier might be in way better condition and might subjectively play better for you. Or a custom built Ritter might be crazy expensive. The price will come from the personal labour and high quality materials. I’ve played a ton of VERY expensive basses. I generally prefer the feel of a basic Fender or Ibanez or Musicman bass. The prices are what they are for good reason but you probably wouldn’t notice or care.

Mick Goodrick, who wrote: "The Advancing Guitarist" recommended learning to play up and down a single string before moving on to position playing. The goal is to combine everything but he thought that learning the notes linearly, as they're laid out on the piano, was the most effective way. Regardless of which method you use, it's a commitment and takes a lot of time.

About plucking-you have to explain it better so we do it right and get good habits not bad ones. About songs-you should make a video for whole songs that are very slow and easy and achievable for absolute level 0 day 1 beginners. So not busy, and not slowing down a faster song, but picking songs that are actually slow. Not riffs, the whole song. And about practice-you use a cliché., because beginners often practice badly. Practice doesn't make perfect-perfect practice makes perfect. Practicing badly develops bad habits. So practicing a level-appropriate song is better than just messing around.
