Have you ever had these kind of failures: Battery Explosion and Diesel Fuel Filter breaking? Was this coincidence?
@byronmorris1594

Ford has a problem with plastic connectors. For fuel lines, more heat and longer idle time cause leaks in the future. I repaired 30 diesels with fuel line problems and bad fuel filters.

Nice pick up, but it's hardly a truck. I think it would be far cheaper for you to go to an HDT. I'm a 45-year veteran in the trucking industry, and the semi trucks are safer, cheaper, and did I say SAFER! I can buy an excellent semi truck for 30.000. Look at the truck paper.

Had the same thing happen but mine was caused by contaminated fuel that clogged the housing causing the excess pressure to crack the housing. They had to take out my tank and flush the whole system on New Years Eve! My hats off to Tallahassee Ford and the mechanic who stayed late to get me back on the road.

Great video, I am a career master certified diesel technician. I love Ford trucks but a word of caution, the fuel system on the 6.7 has serious issues starting with the CP4 pump. These have an extremely high failure rate and when they go it sends metal debris thought the entire system. The bill for that is usually 10-20k. Ford has always had major issues with their diesel motors because they only stick with them for a short period of time and then they put in a new redesigned engine by the time they have figured out how to work out the bugs a new motor comes out. Good luck and safe travels.

@mikz86ta1
@mikz86ta1 4 ай бұрын
Yes the CP4 is a problem but it's not 'extremely high failure rate' with Ford exclusively. That's a disingenuous comment. Ford in fact has far fewer failures than GM. So did Ram/Cummins. Ram and Ford at least use proper fuel filters than that dinky 1 filter GM/Duramax used, as well as Ram/Ford both use lift pumps from the factory which GM/Duramax never did. Aside from crap diesel we get to use in the US which is out of the hands of all 3 automaker's, at least Ford and Ram were proper in their fueling systems setup. Not to mention the pump is a Bosch design and build. It was the only viable option to supply the pressure rates needed for piezo type fuel injectors. Higher rate fuel pressure is essential to get the power needed and still make it effective enough to comply with ever changing EPA standards. Bottom line it starts with the EPA regulations, which in turn will get us horrible diesel fuel quality, and a too tight tolerance HPFP.

One of my sons is a Master Mechanic at a Ford dealership. He steered me away from the diesels in favor of the 7.3 gas engine. It has what they call "lazy torque" meaning the engine produces so much power that it never works hard. Best choice I could have made.

Having had an F150 with the 5.0 naturally aspirated, I really wanted to get the 7.3 but knew it would limit us to rig size for full timing. The Diesel has been great other than these two isses. If we downsize rigs or get a drivable then a SD with the 7.3 would be my choiceWe have had several Fords without issues. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I bought my first new semi truck in 1972 and the 4th year of running this Kenworth with a 4 battery bank one battery started boiling over so to save money I just replaced that one battery. 2,000 miles later all four batteries blew up. Kenworth fixed the truck and that's when I found out when you have one battery go bad replace them all. I have kept that practice for all these years for my 2 battery Ford F 450 and my fleet of semi's and I have never had another battery problem. My wife and I are retired now and we are full time on the road with our rv. I'm very maintenance conscious on my rig from all my years of owning highway rigs and I try to pass that on to others who are new to the rv life. The original batteries in your truck were FLA batteries, (Flooded Lead Acid) each time the truck goes in for service ie, oil change the batteries must be checked for the water level, unless they are AGM's or completely sealed, your batteries were not. The service/vent caps must be removed to service and check the water level, if not the water will dissipate over time, and the batteries will overheat and come apart, which appears to be your case. Unfortunately you went through a series of problems.

Did you ever check your alternator for the battery problem? Usually when a battery bubbles over the alternator and or the built-in voltage regulator is producing too much voltage, a check with a simple volt meter would tell you what's going on. The next thing is any make of diesel with a cp4 injection pump is going to fail and be an expensive brake down. Only buy diesel with a cp3 injection pump , I think the new rams went back to the cp3 . The next expensive brake down is going to be if you have a 10 speed automatic transmission it's going to fail you and cost a fortune to rebuild, but then you'll end up with still a 10 speed transmission that will fail again. Ford builds crap cars and trucks. In my opinion Ram 1 ton with Cummings with an eisen transmission is the best. Make sure it doesn't have a cp4 injection pump and stay away from the 2022 model year .

I have been driving pickups since the 1970’s. I no longer tow heavy loads but remember it seems like I had problems every time we towed on vacation. I remember spending so much time checking batteries, changing oil in all serviceable systems. I always carried spare fan belts, radiator hoses, thermostat, two spare tires, oil and coolant behind the back seat of our trucks. Oh and an arsenal of tools and several blankets, shovel, coveralls, gloves, jacks and tarps. Turns out we would break down in the snow and freeze while making repairs at the site of break down. If it wasn’t in the cold it was in the Arizona desert on the way to California and the ground would be so hot you could cook eggs on the highway. Sorry you’re having the troubles. I do believe vehicles are much more reliable today than in the 70’s and 80’s. Heck any 1/2 ton pickup with rear airbags can out tow any 1-ton of the 70’s and 80’s. By F-150 with max trailer weights more than my 1979 F-350!!!! In addition it has better brakes, better towing safety and twice as much HP and torque.

I also am a mechanic (ASE Certified Master Tech, CA Smog License retired) with 35 + years of on the job experience. There are some decent Ford Products. That said over my career I have seen so much I would never own a Ford. They are great if you are in the auto / truck repair business though. The 6.7 is actually the first decent diesel after the 7.3. What does Ford do? They slap on a Bosch CP4 a known failure due to poor design that will eventually self destruct and spread metal shards throughout the entire fuel system. Do your research and if that does not scare you away from Ford then good luck.

Blown battery caps could be a sign of overcharging, Fords best and only diesel is the 7.3, hands down! The last ford I had developed a problem, it had 1112 miles, that’s correct, a bit over 1000 miles, as I was driving, I was startled by sudden darkness then light, I realized that the entire sheet of paint from my hood and tops of the fenders peeled away. Upon my call and personal visit to Ford, their excuse was acid rain, yeah right. Idiots, I found out that Ford like other manufacturers had a paint to primer issue, i sued, I won, they took possession of said junk, I bought a Gmc, Ford, == Found On Road Dead. Nuff said

We had a 2014 Ford Expedition we purchased brand new. In 2016 the battery blew up and acid ate through all wires. Long story short, our insurance covered the repairs, which were in the thousands, but I did not like the results. I got into a big argument with the service manager and told him I was not taking delivery of the vehicle and spoke with the salesman who sold me the Expedition. I explained my situation to him. He asked me and my wife to have a seat. The salesman then disappeared for about 30 minutes. When he returned he told my wife to pick a new truck. She picked a truck, he wrote down the Vin # and for about $14.00 more added to our monthly payment we drove away in a brand new Ford F150. Everything was transferred from the Expedition to the new truck. The only difference was the extra $14.00 a month. I didn't ask questions but always wondered why they did that without any hassle.

If you get a Chevy truck you will not be on the side of the road. I have a 2019 Chevrolet 3500 6.6L Duramax diesel engine and I absolutely love it. Every time I had a Ford truck I’ve always had problems with it. And with the batteries, I always go with Optima yellow top batteries. I have had nothing but great luck with them and they have always lasted me 5+ years with no problems. The downfall is, when the batteries go bad they go bad, and it usually happens without warning. But my last set of batteries lasted me for seven years.

First off, sorry for your difficulties! Second, lucky for me that Ford has no replaced lead acid (flooded batteries) with AGM which I got in my new 2024 Super Duty. I missed it, but did you replace your batteries with the same lead acid? I just highly recommend that you upgrade your batteries next time to AGM, its really a must. I am pretty sure that it was a short in that battery that cause the explosion, but it's over with now, right? Another thing you might want to look into as a preventative measure is some protection against the Bosch CP4 high pressure pump you have. When you guys are hanging out and surfing the internet, look up problems with that fuel pump and how it has failure issues that cause metal fragments to go through your fuel system causing cascading damage. Currently, forums claim fights with Ford for warranty repair as they like to blame contaminants and other things for the failure of the pump and refuse to repair. It's about a $15 to $18,000 repair. They make an after-market filter bypass system to contain the pump failure that sends the metal all through the fuel system. Anyway, it is worth Googling and for your consideration.

Thanks. I replaced them with FLA batteries since that is all they had they day I had to replace them. Thanks on the tip on the fuel pump...will look into that. Interesting that Ford fights this since you would think their filters would catch the contaminants. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I enjoy your channel! Whenever I hear about symptoms of a pair of battery failures, I often cringe when it seems people (dealers) replace parts rather than diagnose the actual problem. In your case it is possible one bad battery can and probably DID take out the other battery by overcharging the pizz out of it when the bad battery drug the voltage down essentially on both batteries. But, I would have been very concerned about your charging system as well. I’ve not watched your video history enough to know if you have any isolation between any solar system and your charging system. But that would be a possible concern. Second, your inboard Battery Management System circuitry may STILL be damaged as well. Keep an actual eye on your battery charging voltages. If it seems to be charging A LOT, you may have found WHY the chain of events of dead batteries occurred to begin with. Because I’m not convinced you’ve actually repaired the original problem with your possible battery charging system.--ESPECIALLY if you ever had codes for a charging system failure. SECOND-Never ever replace just one Diesel Truck Battery when it has two, and you have had a catastrophic failure on one of them. - you can see why now. Finally, I’d seriously question a cracked HP fuel line failure. I’d have to have seen that part before I left the dealership. And finally, we really enjoy your channel!!

Thank you so much. We did change both batteries when this failure happened. We believe our solar charging is isolated since we do not have a dc-dc charger. Our Ford has towed our 5th wheel 28,000 miles up and over steep mountain passes and shuttled us around its for another 32,000 miles and has done everything we have asked it to do. So no issues with it all..other than a bad battery and a bad fuel filter.Thanks for watching and commenting.
