Excellent tutorial John. That is the slickest way I have seen to cut a morse taper without guess work. Well done!

A great job, John! That's a good point about the lathe dog . . . you don't need that thing whacking your knuckles! Ouch! Thank you for your time to make the video. I know you are a busy guy, and I (for one) really appreciate you taking your time to do this. Thanks again! Regards, Dave

This is the John we all know and love with a great teaching lesson. Years from now after everyone has forgotten how to cut a taper, we're still going to remember crocodiles and High Speed Stools. Oddly enough, I need to cut some tapers myself at the moment. I wonder if petrified cat poo will work.

Excellent John. Your method of setting up for the taper is the best that I've seen. Your results are outstanding! Thanks for sharing.

That method John of measuring and then turning between centers is spot on and when you are set up turn 6-8-10 of them--oil them and put them in a sealable food grade plastic bag and put them away...You will use them in future years..

Hi John Can I suggest using a socket and speed brace on the compound slide, save wrapping your knuckles providing there is a nut in the handle centre offcourse

Thanks What was the grit of the emery tape? You can make a shorter center for the dog so it doesn't stick out so far.

The emery was 300 gritt

Ohhh, bl**dy h*ll, ya about killed me John! When you said "High speed stool" I had a laughing spell that drove my cats from the room and made me see stars when I lost all my wind! Oh my brother, ya done got me typing with an accent now after watchin' ya's all mornin' long... Begging your pardon, it just feels good to mess about and have some fun with making different accents. There is not a drop of harm meant, and I certainly hope there is no offense taken? I'm just a old lad from Hawaii that lives in California now, I grew up surfing and playing footy, so I've met my fair share of Australian blokes, and later on some English and Irish surfers made it over there too, but I've yet to meet a Scot who surfed. I know they exist, some fine ones too, and Thurso is high on my list of places to visit for a surf, but I've just yet to meet one of your fellow countryman out in the surf. Bound to happen if I ever get to Scotland, he he. Anyhow, I am going back to watching you work, it's a great playlist and I really appreciate you taking the time to put it up for us to enjoy! I can feel your pain as far as the slow uploads go, even my computer is so old that it takes forever to just render them from the editing program. Thanks a bunch for both the great laughs and the excellent instructions. You can blame Tom Lipton for me showing up here and pestering you, he's the one whose mentioned you. Well, everybody I watch speaks highly of you, but he was just the most recent, and with my memory it's all that stuck! Aloha John...Sincerely, Chuck

I spent my entire day watching your build and just finished, thank you so much. It's a holiday here, Dad's watching his baseball, the house is tidy with all his meals made and ready to go. It is 40C here today, so it was a pleasant day to spend indoors watching you work. I enjoyed learning not just how to make the die holder, and all of the nifty tricks on centering parts in the chuck(the ball bear is brilliant!), but also how to entertain your viewers. I'm going to try figuring out how to add those little out-takes, even though I'll have to be sparing as they'd take a whole video in my case, hehe. Aloha...Chuck
