Doubled the power = Doubled the Speed!! Converting a 16V Viper power wheel to a 24V speed demon!!!

A couple years ago I bought a $248 16V Trax power wheel for $40 on craigslist...and after sometime, the battery could not hold a charge for more than a few minutes. Replacing the battery for another 16V sealed battery would have cost me any where between $150-250!! Instead, I bought two $28 12v batteries and a cheap 12V charger and turned this EV from the base model viper and into a power wheel viper GTS-R!!! Ok...not really but it is a lot faster and more powerful than before....oh and it finally holds a charge so now it runs longer.

I ran into the same issue! I was going to do three 6-volt batteries but maybe I’ll do two 12-volts as well. How has the longevity been?

The batteries have been holding up just fine. I will say this though, the gears, because they are made of plastic, the one on the driver side has worn out. I just got to replacing it for about $15.

@@Miamig37 where did you get the replacement gears from? I can only find the power wheels and prego replacement gears.

@@patrickhanlon1706 I have to say, the gears keep wearing out on this thing. Heres the link to the one I bought on amazon: amzn.to/2yRqaR9 I ordered some other ones from ebay but I am yet to receive them. My plan is to try and replace the plastic gears with metal ones so that it would last a lot longer.

I wired up the charger as you did, it worked fine with one 12v battery but once I wired the other battery up the light stays green as if the battery’s are still fully charged

Were you able to charge the batteries when they were wired in series for 24volts with the charger?

@@amalthompson3227 I connected the batteries in parallel with the new charger and it worked but that means having to take out one of the seats, changing the terminals, charging and putting everything back. I'm trying to figure out an easier way.
