The laboratory is (mostly) underground. They show you the kind of fireman's pole entrance right there in the intro. In many episodes they also have like, the house just slide off to the side when Dexter exits in a tank or robot or fires a rocket or something.

Man, I actually remembered watching this for the first time on Cartoon Network. It was such a big event of my childhood. After that, Dexter's Laboratory changed. Once Genndy Tartakovsky started working on Samurai Jack, the show was completely different.

Dexter's Ego Trip story's big twist was that Dexter was really the main villain because he got jealous that DeeDee became the hero instead of him and he and the other Dexters wanted to kill her. The title Ego trip was about Dexter's ego getting the best of him. Ego trip means something undertaken to boost or draw attention to a person's own image or appraisal of himself; to act in this way, and something done primarily to satisfy one's vanity. Dexter's ego was his greatest enemy.

Dexter lab was pretty good. Although the later seasons with the weird backgrounds and the infamous Dad cartoon where Dexter dad try’s to play golf for ten hours. The show was going through its rough years by that point.

I thought the ending was good. Dexter thought he was amazing and saved he world, but it ended up being Deedee doing it effortlessly. He was just seething and couldn't even look at her any more, so he just takes his lunch and leaves while Deedee is just ignorant to all of it XD

Mandark was originally framed as smarter than Dexter in that first episode of his introduction, he had telepathy and his lab was more advanced but his weakness is that he was down bad for Deedee and Dexter exploited that but then subsequent portrayals had him equal or less than Dexter. This movie clear frames him as less intelligent

As Bruce Timm mentioned in the Batman: TAS commentary track, the board of standards and practices was always giving them notes about how violent their show was. I do think with anime becoming more and more mainstream, and more open about appreciating a woman's body, the censors were more distracted by anime and the sexy stuff in western shows were overlooked.

How did they get away with things like that first joke with Twister? Script writers when they wanted to sneak in an innuendo joke into the script would put something even worse into it so the censors would ignore the joke you want to put on in the first place. Prime example is the Animaniacs "fingerprints" joke.

8:15 Sexual innuendo was another level back then. Heck, National Geographic magazines and television use to show nude tribes from around isolated ethnic villages. Some of the editorials with picture illustrations were allowed in school classrooms as well. And these included all ages of children to teens- adults snd elder adults in photos.

The moment of Dextar's parents playing twister but it's implied they are doing something else is classic 90's cartoons because so many if them are littered with adult references. Ren and Stimpy had the most by far, but so many others were every once in a while you'd see it as a kid right over your head as an an adult you got it by either laughing or like Corey 🤨 rising that eyebrow.
