Interesting fact: Casey Kasem was going to play shaggy again in this, but refused because of the scene with shaggy is eating crawfish. Which goes against what was established of Shaggy being a vegetarian just like him. They couldn’t edit it, but were willing to give him a voice near the end of the film. Which he refused mostly out of principle.

I remember seeing the ads for this on Cartoon Network. The line that was emphasized was "This time the monsters are real." Which hadn't been done, to my knowledge, in Scooby-Doo before that point. It was a game changer. And sure we saw the gang scared at times, but the animation here made it go from scares to downright terror. It was HYPED. And it actually lived up to the hype, even with how silly it got. And that moment with Moonscar's zombie transformation was TERRIFYING to me, but I kept rewatching because it was fascinating to me. Glad you got to check it out!

I think as a kid this introduced me to the concept of voodoo dolls, I was able to the idea right away. Also, A Pup Name Scooby-Doo's theme song is too dang memorable lol. Anyways, I need to rewatched this film as I agree with people who view this as one of the best Scooby-Doo films out there. It's dark, the characters chemistry is great, and it mixes the typical Scooby-Doo comedic antics with the morbid story elements well. I think they mentioned animated movies back then didn't go this dark 🤔. I have to disagree, this was pretty common for animated films of the 90s and 2000s. I feel like some animated films today are a bit too clean and polished. I agree wholeheartedly that kids media often has to be more subtle than adult media and that it makes you think. This film having darker elements while still being safe, family-friendly, and not get to gorey or raunchy is what makes it stand out in a good way, while the show Velma is a little too reliant on being raunchy and getting away with gore and nudity. Lastly, in terms of Scooby-Doo's longevity I think one of the reasons for that is because the characters are well-defined and the premise is simple it can be vary malleable. Scooby-Doo can fit into any genre and anything can be done with it. I think the same is true for things like Power Rangers or Pokémon.
