His writing is no better either. His scripts are like an alien trying to understand how human beings communicate with each other. One line that always sticks out to me is in _The Happening_ where Zooey Deschanel's character at one point says, "WE CAN'T JUST STAND HERE AS UNINVOLVED OBSERVERS!"

Speaking from Ireland, everyone in any town or village knows All the townlands within 20 miles around you. Nobody drives off into the woods and gets lost - not only because this Island has the lowest amount of woodland in all of europe, with almost no woods or forests here, let alone big enough to drive off into and get lost in.

I'm not sure what message the film tried to convey. At first I thought it was satirizing "reality tv culture," hyperbolically exploring the "trappings" of public/televised life and being watched by an unforgiving audience that wants the "stars" to adhere to its unrealistic expectations. But then it segued into faerie lore (changelings) which could have been a critique of replacement theory? I don't know, just spitballing here.

The plot holes disrupt a lot of the good things about the movie. I even sat there trying to rationalize about why certain actions weren't taking by a character because it would have been the most logical thing to do. Even the excuse i came up with was washed away. Sure I can also give the movie the excuse that they had budget limitations but there should have been a lot more in the setting in which the movie is placed. The movie aims to be multiple things but in the end it just becomes jumbled. Scale of 1 to 10 a 4

I'm 50/50 with this movie. It has good production value and good directing from M Nights daughter, feels like she studied and her father helped her out. But the other half losses me when they start dumping exposition and it kept going at the end. I hope M Nights daughter improves later on cause todays Hollywood is different with nepotism. Your relationa to a famous person can only get you so far, if you fuck up more than once Hollywood will blacklist you. Example, that kid from Artemis Fowl .

I just saw the movie. I was a little scared until I saw what they looked like. They kept them in shadows for the first half and then they were just slender man mixed with gollum but with way worse CGI. I knew the twist early on just because I know there would be a twist plus there were little hints (I should have killed you months ago). But give it two minutes of thought and it won’t make any sense. They were escaping and they stopped TWICE. Dakota was saved because of the power of friendship? She was a perfect old lady for the months that she was with them, but when she left she started to suck at it again? If that ladies husband was a watcher when he was knocking on the door then why was he snatched again. They had been together for months before Dakota arrived. That box must stank. Lastly if the professor had to kill construction workers by the truckload, wouldn’t people be looking for him? Why would his office at the college still be there?

I think we expect too much of movies lately. We are less willing to suspend our disbelief due to the current times we live in a let movies get away with things that would never happen in the real world. They’re movies. Yeah sometimes they’re bad, but we can’t expect 100% reality from them. The Original Exorcist is a prime example. We accepted Regan levitating and the complete biological impossibility of her head spinning 360 degrees with no neck trauma. I mean c’mon. I’m not sure if Hollywood is just putting out lesser product or if we’re just being super critical die to our modern sensibilities or both.

*Spoilers* I would have gone with it if the others discovered Madeline being a shapeshifter in the video while she was away forcing the others to plan their escape. Then Madeline could have shapeshifted as one of the other captives in order to leave with them. However, the most logical thing Madeline could have done would be to assume her husband's identity to fund more experiments. What purpose does Mina serve? Perhaps hint that Mina's abilities to hide behind different personas was the reason why the Watchers were particularly interested in her. The whole movie broke my brain, but little tweaks here and there would have made it slightly more believable.

Korey is wrong about the spoiler. Only one fairy was half human and half fairy. The one fairy that was “caught” by the professor was the halfling. The halfling did not kill the professor, he shot the fairy and then killed himslef because he regretted what he had done by having innocent men die making the bunker and having the fairy turn into his wife. But the fairy did not die. She could not get to the boat because she did not know where the boat was. It wasn’t until Mina found the blogs of the professor telling them the location of the boat.

The reason the fairy did not kill Mina was because the fairies whole goal was to escape the forest and kill humans who trapped their race inside the forest. But it wasn’t until Mina remember the folklore (when she went to the university) fairies used to live in harmony with humans, they would be their guardian, had wings and mate with humans causing mixed offsprings. Mina told the fairy she was half human and it changed the fairies whole perspective on herself and purpose. The fairy realized because she has human blood that’s the reason she can leave the forest and withstand sunlight. Mina promised the half human/fairy she would never feel alone again, so the fairy decided to become her guardian watching over her.

It was explained very clearly who made the Bunker or the “The wonderland” as it was the professor. He brought builders out to work on it during the day and by night he would hide in the bunker to get killed by the fairies. The Doctor said he made a generator but I will admit that part is ridiculous as far as electricity goes

It still made no sense! So, the professor had an unlimited number of builders who kept coming daily, continuing work previous builders started?

@@sheek1982 i don’t think that’s far fetched. The underground bunker looks like more architectural and time consuming but the upper bunker is pretty basic. It’s just a block, no bigger than a trailer home.

I would give it around a high rental. I enjoyed the movie quite a bit for its concept and cinematography and I even enjoyed the performances quite a bit. That third act is pretty rough though. I would love to see what Ishana does next though.

I like this movie. I comprehend most of it. It’s pretty much about past trauma and letting go of guilt, regret, and pain. (Foreshadowing) The main character Mina shape shifts into other people (wearing wigs, different personas) because she blames herself for her mom’s death. Once in the forest there are fairies that can shape shift into humans. The fairies have a grudge against the humans because humans locked them away in this forest . The fairie watch the humans to master what it’s like to be human, (ex the show “Big Brother” replaying over and over, interactions with each other). There is only one fairy that can do it perfectly. This fairy can be in sunlight, unlike the others that only come out at night. Reason is revealed towards the end when the fairy finds out it’s half human. As the fairy recollects on its bonding time with the humans(feelings, emotions, sympathy) it realizes it doesn’t have to be shackled down by its past and chooses to watch over Mina as s guardian while Mina learns to let go of her past trauma.

All the stupid Twist in the book and emotionless stuff etc are actually in the book. Fairys can mimic humans but struggle with emotional expressions, thus the but kept throwing hints around how the lady showed no emotions on her face. since she was secretly a fairy.

If it wasnt relevant it seems odd they would just spend a few minutes talking about humans would have sex with the fairies. I thought the main character survived because she told the hybrid to let go of the hatred for humans because she is actually part human herself. And i thought the reason it was a red head kid at the end is because her true self is a child. I could he super wrong but thats what i thought i saw🤷‍♂️

I would have been so frustrated after only a few days of zero useable information my pissed off would have easily overpowered my fear. I love how they were trapped there for months and nobody seems concerned about where food and water for 4 grown people are coming from. Day 2 I would already be considering facing down whatever is out there has a higher chance of survival than continuing to just do the same thing. Day 3 I would be planning and coming to terms with the first person I was gonna have to inevitably end up eating just to have enough physical strength to continue “hunting and looking for water”. And the elephant in the room, we can survive longer with less people consuming portions of anything.

Do these survival instincts makes sense to a GenZ audience? no spoilers, but literally the only character that seemed to have any desire to survive was the olderwoman. The rest only seemed to be moderately bothered by the whole inconvenience of the situation. Also by the end of the first week just out of pure frustration rage I would have burned the entire forest down. I was completely counting on the fact that once you stumbled into this area time was no longer linear or the characters were no longer perceiving time the same as in reality. BUT NO

Watched the movie today and I wasn‘t scared at all - topic wise I think ‚The Hallow‘ is a much better and scarier horror movie with less plot holes or ‚intended‘ twists and the lore suited better for this horror flick. Or Netflix ‚the Ritual’ did a better job on scary in-the-woods-no-way-out topic with an evil antagonist and the burden of guilt involved. I was confused that in „the watchers“ there was no twisted character dynamics in this situation locked in a rooms for some time and people usually develop a toxic behavior against one another even if they know each other but here they going along better than every other one at a Christmas dinner …

But she literally did "use her words".. like the Daywalker did NOT kno it was half and half. And that shit blew its mind so bad that it not only let the main character live WITHOUT A FIGHT, it sprouted wings and flew away😂 Maybe it let her live as a thank you for the 411..?? But I like to think she was hitting that fey with bars from a fire ass dis track like "Not Like Us" 😎

They were full fairies. and the full fairies became corrupted from the magic and being trapped underground and lost their wings. She needed to hide in the box herself because since she was a half breed. The full fairies hated her and would torture her. Now the rest of it still doesn't make sense. there is was still no reason for her to live with the humans. being half breed shes still super fast and strong and would probably spend her days searching for the boat herself. which I'm sure she would have found....... Secondly since she lived with the professor for awhile she would know about the basement.... so why not just go to the basement asap with all the supplies? another thing...... so did the professor catch a fairies, have sex with one and the half breed was born? soooo the lady was the professors offspring? so he wanted his offspring to turn into his wife? (EW) Or was she a half breed thats been around for hundreds of years and had to deal with being tortured by the fairies and saw the professor and didnt kill him because she felt that he may be her way out away from the full blooded one? like apparantly they were together for over a year so im sure he showed her how to get out. Shit made no sense. The movie should have ended when they all got on the bus and started driving away.

This is why they don’t emote or care or ask about their situation. The watchers are humans or aliens or whatever higher life form. Some are kind, some cruel. Blah, blah, blah.
