The best movie of the year and an instant classic. Patterson deserves the best actor Oscar. What an amazing turn around for him. The guy has been all in on the craft. Dafoe is fantastic as well and would nominate for best supporting. I have no negative criticism for this picture. Every element is done to excruciating detail, impeccable direction, impactful performances all while retaining a unique look. It’s exceptional and Eggers has arguably cemented himself as a great. Endings like the one explained here can be 'cool' but all-too-often they're mostly done because the writer(s) don't know how to end the story or just flat out don't have an ending.
@pismodude25 жыл бұрын
What? You didn't find it incredibly deep to end with him finally getting to look at the light and then falling from the top of the heavens like Prometheus before him, punished forevermore by being lain out on the rocks and picked apart by the birds? What about when he started imagining Dafoe as a siren with a big puffy fish vagina and then dominated him and made him act like a dog? This tells the story of man attempting to rise to the level of god and dominate the powers that existed before him, don't you think that's really deep and meaningful? Like they said in the movie, both of their Christian names were the same, but because of their sins they were neither worthy of being in control of their own fates. Just kidding. 1/10. Everyone needs to stop sniffing Dafoe's farts. The critics are all pressuring each other to love this, it probably brings them back to their days of studying films and tickles their nostalgia button a bit. It's obvious every critic is afraid to call it what it is: A well executed movie, with amazing acting, great musical scores, perfect set and direction, but an absolute shit story stitched together from old historical records and small snippets adapted from timeless writings of the ages past, clearly used by someone out of their depth and so desperate to find meaning that they had to leave it open-ended with vague allusions to many possible interpretations. You are completely right, this movie failed the basic need to have a strong main storyline by trying to be so open-ended and *interpretable*.

@pismodude25 жыл бұрын
ColombianThunder No. You can use whatever rating system you like, but to me, each aspect of a movie plays a vital role. You don't get a point for music, or a point for good direction, it doesn't work that way. Even a $1,000 sandwich is ruined when they slather on toothpaste to hold it together. The plot is the connective tissue of a movie. I don't ever want to see anyone make something like this ever again, the rating reflects that. But I do appreciate and acknowledge that every other aspect was solid and probably 10/10. The actors, musicians, set designers, and director did great work here, not denying that at all.
@ColombianThunder5 жыл бұрын
@@pismodude2 then that should reflect in the rating. It seems odd to give a movie 2 completely different ratings. And while you're right you can rate a movie how you want, there are objective aspects to film and i feel that should be taken into account when it comes to a rating, you said it yourself the production was a 10/10, which one can interpret as aspects of the movie really speaking to you meaning you enjoyed it. Movies aren't sandwiches. To rate a movie a 1 over one part you didn't enjoy sounds ridiculous because from your point of view(it seems) nearly every movie should be a 1. I understand why you dislike the film but idk I'm just of the belief that movies, while subjective, can be rated objectively
