Had the good fortune to hear this trio, with a drummer, in Buffalo last month, in a space not much bigger than many living rooms, for a whopping $20. Certainly the finest guitarist I've ever heard live. One of the best I've ever heard period. Jaw-dropping virtuosity. And Thor, his accompanist, is almost as good, which means superb.

Where in Bflo. was your show?

The Sportsman's Tavern, which is a good space despite its name. I also caught him at Barbes in Brooklyn NYC, his home base I believe, and which is very intimate. All in the innocent pre-pandemic days of course.

I know it well! I know the owner - we gigged in different bands in the Country circuit back in the 80's. ...amazing what Duane has done with the place!

hmm that weird business near the beginning of the solo where he kept hitting open E kind of didn't work in my opinion but the rest sounds cool. The technique and tone are awesome.... very fun to watch and listen to

was actually the coolest thing he did lol

Fair enough if you think that - to each his own. To me it sounds "outside" for the sake of it, and doesn't really achieve anything musical to my ear. The rest of it, however, is great

You realize that it's an improvised solo? I find it pretty incredible, it requires high end musical knowledge plus artistic greatness to play like that. I get Your point but isn't this like saying "Your punch seems not perfect" to a black belt while you are a whitebelt? Glad You liked the rest of the song

No, it's not like that. Music is far more open to interpretation than a fighter's form. I recognize his skill and talent - he is a far greater player than I. That doesn't change the fact that I didn't like that particular idea. It's my opinion, and my taste, fair enough if you think it sounded good

i see and i respect that. :) that beeing said it is still an improvised idea and he is human. people who play like that may be perfectionists and are probably criticising themself enough. another point is that music is a form of art and does not necesarilly have to sound good. personally i viewed the solo as a told story and this part was really intriguing. maybe it's different if you see it like that? who knows... art is really amazing especially the fact that it triggers different feelings, thoughts and interpretations for many people :) i had the same thought when listening btw the idea itself was maybe another one and it played out differently :D there is an interview with stephane where he mentions how important it is to accept what is beeing improvised to evole. very intriuing also.
