One of the best Canadian bands who didn't get the recognition they deserved. They played all across Canada and had great shows. The music is witty and entertaining, as was Doug when he was on stage.

They played for my dad's retirement party when he left the CPR. My mom loved them and knew all of the lyrics. She was singing along from in front of the stage, and Doug Bennet noticed her enthusiasm and invited her to come up and sing along with them. She was terrified, so my sister and I joined in to sing too! It is a story we reminisced about often. My mom died on Thursday, and we had been listening to Doug and the slugs, the Powder Blues, and Rod Stewart this week. Rest in peace, mom. 🎉

Another great Canadian Band eh? 🇨🇦 Doug and the Slugs had trouble being booked at first because of their name. This is the theme song of the Norm Macdonald Show, a great Canadian Comedian recently passed. Just a great tune with an addictive beat. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Louie. Knew it was gonna be a Louie request. Thanks for promoting Canadiana. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I used to see Doug and the Slugs on a regular basis at the Commodore in Vancouver. Pogo dancing was popular around that time from the punk scene and when the band would get play this song, the dance floor was just so crowded that the only dance option was just to bounce up and down in one place.

Again, OMG. Thank you for exploring another Canadian gem. Doug Bennett was a treasure, funny nice guy I met a couple of times. The last time I was going to see them the show was cancelled at the last minute, and it wasn't long after that Doug passed. Many many good memories of going to their shows in the late 80s and dancing the night away. Best of times!

I saw Doug and the Slugs back in the early 80s at a nightclub in Montreal. Great band, and Doug had a terrific stage presence. Just a hilarious guy; it was a fun show. Thanks for another great reaction!

Thank you Louie and Harri! I remember Doug (Bennett) and The Slugs being a huge bar band playing at the Commodore and other clubs here in Vancouver in the late 70's through the early 70's. It took them a long time but they persevered and finally hit it big! Great story, very cool band, and Doug was fantastic live!!

Great band, great music. They were on my regular playlist in the late 1980s. I saw the band only once, at an official pre-Grey Cup party in Vancouver in 1990. I had flown in earlier that day from Canada's east coast and in spite of the 4-hour time shift, I wasn't leaving until the band played its last set. I was a tired but happy boy.

🍁🍁🍁 Another fun Canadian band! 🍁🍁🍁 The video is super cheesy, but you're right about it being played near the end of the night in the bars, with everyone loudly (and drunkenly) singing along. Hahahaha I remember, because I was one of them back then! 🤣👍👍👍 This brought back some fun memories. Thanks, Harri!

I knew Doug in 1976 working as an art director at the Georgia Straight Magazine. Doug would drop in and help me with paste-up and drop of his weekly cartoon he drew under the name “Craig”. We would just hang out afterwards. Doug was a really great guy and will be missed! R.I.P.

Wonderful, Harri! Thank you for reacting to one of my favourites from my hometown! Aside from your positive attitude, I especially love your willingness to explore music that is beyond the international hits. The 1960s, 70s, and into the 80s, were filled with great songs that never made a dent in the charts but are worth listening to as much as the hits of the time. A great local band who mixed a strong sense of fun into some fantastic music, I saw Doug and the Slugs countless times all over Vancouver. While this album, Cognac and Bologna, was released in 1980, the single was first on the airwaves in 1979. The band had a long string of great tracks that are well worth checking out.

New Subscriber...From 🍁Canada🍁 First off full disclosure, I just turned 56 and have been a life long follower of "SLUGTOLOGY!" 😆 Doug & the Slugs could pack a room, sometimes big ones some small...We're talking about a band that like the Tragically Hip, both played every room in Canada...A hell of alot of miles across this great nation... Great Rock and Roll, brings to mind a quote from Dr Johnny Fever (Howard Hessman- R.I.P) "SOMETIMES YA JUST GOTTA DANCE!" Two things about their live shows, once the music starts the dance floor is packed! And Doug always came out on stage DRESSED TO KILL!" We're talking style maybe even beyond Robert Palmer, lol... Fantastic presentation Harri, seen all your Canadian content, I think, lol...Triumph? Trooper? Loverboy? Kim Mitchell? Heck you'd even like some old "STOMPIN TOM CONNORS..."❤🇨🇦❤ Take Care

This band is from my hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia. Doug & the Slugs are a Canadian pop music group formed in 1977. The song "Too Bad" was the theme song for the 1999-2001 sitcom "The Norm Show" starring Norm Macdonald. The band had some great hits in the 1980's such as "Who Knows How To Make Love Stay", Making It Work", "Tomcat Prowl", "Chinatown Calculation", "Day By Day" etc.
