Doug Casey states, get qualified and then go where you are unique! Spot on. I finished my qualification as a Chiropractor in California in 1990. I worked in LA for 5 years and could see the writing on the wall for where California was headed. I took a job at the first Chiropractic clinic to open in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1995 and never looked back. I have been practicing in this country longer than anyone else and have played a key role in the leagalizing the profession here. Still going strong in 2021, 26 years later with a Thai wife and daughter and a sucessful practice. As Mr. Casey states, people all over the world are clamoring for high quality services. Spot on again. If you have the skills, and you are willing to work hard, you can build a great life in a developing country, however, don't think you can come to a developing country and bullshit your way through just because you come from a fully developed country. If you don't deliver, you will fail. I have seen so many come and go over the years, being overconfident, while underestimating the ability of the locals to judge for themselves what truly makes for a valuable service. They will figure you out over time if aren't genuine.

Once upon a time it wasn't controversial to debate the causes of the secession movement. Now people think its crazy to talk about anything other than "slavery, slavery, slavery." It's actually not very possible to claim that the US military went to war against certain States because the institution of slavery existed in those States. History shows that slavery itself, existing where it did at the time, was not an issue even being seriously contested at the federal level. From a purely constitutional perspective, this makes sense as the US government was not granted any power to abolish or regulate slavery in any State. This is why the 13th amendment was passed later, since before the southern states were crushed and forced into compliance, amending the constitution on this point would have been a hopeless cause. Far from abolishing slavery in the states where it existed, the Supreme Court's ruling in 1857 suggested that even the territories could not be regulated by the federal government on the issue of slavery. Once secession had begun, the proposed amendment to reassure everyone on this point, in a failed attempt to appease the concerns of the South, was approved by Congress and sent to the States for ratification. This amendment, supported by Lincoln, reads as follows: “No amendment shall be made to the Constitution which will authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere, within any State, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of persons held to labor or service by the laws of said State.”

Mostly all Westerners can't identify 5 African Countries Flag, or tell you the most widely (non European) language spoken in 10 Sub Saharan Countries. They couldn't identify the Government make-up in 3 Countries (PM or President etc.). They couldn't identify most African currencies. All they know is "Africa" is poor, corrupt, dangerous and majority of the people don't look like me. Don't give Westerners a blank map of the Continent. I'm sure most would fill in South Africa and maybe Morocco. Truly laughable. Very uneducated.

The US has the highest income because it doesn't have a tax based "free" Universal Healthcare. I Highly doubt that incomes would remain high, if there was a "free" Healthcare System. Nearly 40+ million of 330 million are in poverty. It's easy to say "get" a job but most service jobs do not pay decent wages. Go to School? How? If everyone applied for Scholarships, it would not be enough for all. Sure, the US still has economic opportunities. However "best" is, and always will be subjective. Simply because everyone in the US is NOT treated equally. A fact that gets thrown to the back burner often!

@theaugur13733 жыл бұрын
Interesting interview. One comment: what Casey says about the civil war being more about economics is misleading. The non-slavery rationale for the war was introduced after the war was over. It was basically a retconn. If you look at the speeches and writings of Jefferson Davis (Confederacy President) and Alexander Stephens (Confederacy VP) before the war, they are quite clear about the preservation of slavery being the motivating force for secession.

That might be right for some people, but IMO it’s a pretty sad way of living to just go somewhere where you’re rich and unique only to exploit the economy and then leave. The world needs people who actually care about where they live, not just opportunists. While it’s not always necessary to be somewhere with crazy high rent and many successful people, it also feels like a cop out to just go and escape in a place where the standard is so much lower. Of course, it’s much easier to make it in places with lower standards, but then you might live your whole life regretting what kind of greater achievements you could have made if you actually surrounded yourself with peers on your level. Again, everyone does what they want, but I find the video a little dogmatic.

I've visited all over the world, and I genuinely enjoy globally cultured/educated Indian guys to hang out with or go to a dance party (like even just all dudes...they're a barrel of fun). As for the country itself, it's just frankly a sh*thole. I went to India twice for about 2 months each time and managed to get Hepatitis A the first time (despite estimated ~90% chance of immunity from previous vaccination) while only EVER drinking bottled water and ONLY eating food inside seemingly reputable restaurants with AC, and during visit #2 I had two separate stomach bugs. Meanwhile, I've been to Cambodia, Indonesia, you name it and never got sick or almost ran over. Even if none of that happened, I'd still feel the same way about it. Have you seen them drive? India has lots of potential and every individual Indian person is unique and not comparable, but on the complete whole it's even less "civilized" than say mainland China or IMO even Vietnam. I've had many cultured, heavily educated Indians say exactly this themselves, completely unprompted too.

A passport allows you into one country. It lets you into other countries only because that country you *are* allowed into as a matter of law is nicer than theirs. They know you'll leave. That means keeping citizenship for a desirable country, because only that allows visa-free travel.

Who is is the guy? The U.S. Civil War was not a civil war? It was a war of secession? He obviously does not understand either. The U.S. Cilvil Was was a conflict between two sides and one group that wanted to leave the republic and keep the “peculiar institution of slavery” and the other opposed to both ideas. Why is this guy trying to attempt a sly distinction. And his statement about the was being economic...duh! Let me think...slaves - free labor and “captial.” Interesting way of “whitewashing” the principle of slavery. Andrew, please vet your interviews better. I know KZbinrs support each other but really?

@@paulj8726 - A civil war is for one group to take control of an existing government or apparatus. If the south was victorious (and they almost were) the county would have been split up into two or three countries.

Oh, yeah. The secessionist war (US Civil War) was not about slavery; it was about economics. That's a hoot! They were inextricable. Oh, and Casey's analysis of the contributions of the robber barons versus the US government to the wealth of the nation is also hilarious. The US government saved the unregulated economy of the robber barrons after the do nothing Republicans were voted out of every branch of the US government in the early 1930s. Then the post WW2 progressive federal government grew the US economy, including the largest and longest economic expansion and the establishment of a large middle class between the end of the war and the 1980s. How's that for some actual facts?

The only reason why Catalonia and the Basque lands succeeded industrially and financially is because of privileged concessions by the crown of Spain in the XIX Century (Bacardi in Puerto Rico, then Spain, is just an example). Then in the XX Century, Francoist Regime invested a lot in those regions, to keep the bourgeois happy. Same with the "democracy" period. Sure, catalonians and Basques are industrious people, but so are Andalusians and Castilians. They ere just not subsidized. Doug Casey knows a lot, but is illiterate in Spain's reality.
