Yep. Today's music sucks. Nothing like what was produced in the 60s, 70s and 80s. People wrote, recorded and were able to play their music live without samples, backing tracks etc.. You do not need talent to make it in the industry now. All you need is a pretty face, and maybe some singing chops. Music is controlled by corporate American that produces a homogenized product.

The music world lost him about three years after this was released, as they never did anything memorable after their first album. Not a true one hit wonder but very close. They were pursued by several labels after causing a buzz in the LA bar scene, and for playing with established acts, so the label paid them a lot to sign, helped them a lot in recording an album, and promoted them like mad, and their first LP was a success, but everything thst came later was disappointing. But one huge hit can get you gigs the rest of your life.

I remember saying goodbye to the seventies with this song growing in its popularity in '79~'80 whatta way to go.. radios, jukeboxes oh man the Knack's been killing it with that guitar solo. Seemed every guitarist I knew was into that lead part, temporarily dropping others in its place: hotel cali, sultans of, carry on wayward, ram jam, wild cherry, the "usuals" of the time; my Sharona somehow made it to the finish line yesss!

Douglas Lars Fieger (August 20, 1952 - February 14, 2010) was an American singer-songwriter-musician. He was the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the rock band The Knack. He co-wrote "My Sharona", the biggest hit song of 1979 in the U.S., with lead guitarist Berton Averre.
@taekwondotime5 жыл бұрын
I've mentioned this in other videos but most artists from pre-2000 can actually perform their own songs live. They don't need audio sweetening or other computerized trickery to produce their songs. I think that often comes as a shock to young people who are like "wow, they sound just like the album" because yeah, the album is really them singing and not a computer.

@2728muzikmann6 ай бұрын
@@sarcasticallyrearranged Of course you did. Youre missing the part where there was all kinds of bands that played long complex songs all the way through and weren't horrible. They did it all with their own voices and instruments. Without the use of software to keep them on key and backing tracks. That's impressive! Bands like Yes and Genesis and so many more were the real deal.

The guitar solo is so great and catchy. One of the best I've ever heard. Never get bored of it. When you play a guitar solo, it's not just about speed but also about beauty and precision. You don't want to bother everyone's ears with your air-polluting sound, do you?

ammar as-sunayniy Not only is it a great solo, the guy playing lead on this version was ridiculously good...There are a few spots where the original lead guitarist for The Knack used some pick tapping while this guy did them completely with his fret hand...ramping the difficulty up by quite a bit...

People who have fans that follow them know all kinds of songs they think are great, but if they don't sell they go into the same file that thousands of other recorded songs go in to. It could have been a hit if, and that if is if people had liked it enough to buy it. They had 1 huge song and a bunch that reached like 68 on the top 40. Their second album sold a lot of copies on the back of their first which is common for big first album bands. They were a flash in the pan except for dedicated fans.
