Only this level of guitar, bass, and drum virtuosity, melodies, and rhythm can justify the sheer quantity of lead singer pelvic thrusts throughout.

I was a freshman in high school in 1979 and this song was a dagger. We'd never heard anything like it. Elvis Costello, Blondie, and Talking Heads were out there but this was something so strange and new. That bridge was like a totally novel different hit song. We lost our minds to this song at Friday night dances. And it is still just as great today.

For everyone who's curious Doug Fieger, 25 at the time (the singer) fell in love with a girl from a clothing store named Sharona Alperin, 17 at the time, but they were both in relationships at the time. He broke up with his girlfriend and went after Sharona. They were messing around, although she was still in a relationship. They started dating a while after he wrote a few songs for her; including My Sharona, That's What the Little Girls Do and (She's So) Selfish. They were together for 5 years, but broke up when alcoholism took over Doug. They remained friends. Sharona was with Doug during his last week, when he died of cancer. Also, Doug stated he wrote My Sharona from a 14-year-old boy's perspective.

Once in a while, I go back to this song! It made me quit my job in Belgium late 90's. To join a Boston grunge band for several years /insane years of recklessness. Met my future wife before moving back to Belgium. Hearing this song makes me wonder how, why music can push you to do amazing stuff?! When I explain this story to my son while we're listening to this! He just shrugs! & say"you are crazy! " (Tim Boston)

I'd just come to NYC in the summer of 79 and this song was blasting on the radio. I asked a nice Jewish girl what Sharona was all about. She told me it was about her ... Well, naughty bits. I later found out that Sharona was a girl's name! I was so naive at 23! Thanks, Robin!

Ive loved this song since its debut. ...Naughty bits, i didnt catch them myself back then. Fast forward until recently.. One of my grandsons best friends name is Sharone, a male. Well, now, everytime I hear Sharon's name, my brain goes right back in time to this song. I knew Sharona was a girl, and the "naught lyrics " dont compare to the lyrics of some of todays music. Great song, nonetheless.

@leokimvideo "Greatest guitar solo in pop / rock history" Not even close. There are at least two dozen better guitar solos by Pink Floyd, The Who, Eric Clapton with any band, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, The Eagles, Steve Miller, and too many more to name. "My Sharona", great song. The Knack, mediocre band with average musicians who hit it big as one-hit-wonders.
