I admire the respect that Chad shows for Doug. Shows the measure of a man that he is, that he listens and follows the instructions of Doug in his own shop. 👍👍

You guys need to get the trans off and get the engine on an engine stand, then you can turn it upside down and drain the cylinders. Then you will have a better view of things to fit that other pan to the engine. BTW I think you could use a parts washer to clean that pan and other stuff.

I love this. It is not meant to be a master lesson in engine rebuilding- it is 2 friends doing what they can with the kit they have got. That is like most of us.

Back in the old days when we were rebuilding flat head engines I found that the expensive mistakes are the ones we never forget!

Would definitely follow Doug’s recommendation regarding pulling head - engine really needs full rebuild

I agree totally, you hand build from scratch a stunning car. Why would you shove in a engine from a junk yard that has not been totally rebuilt, you never know what other horrors may be lurking within that engine, doesn't make sense!

exactly,why spend 3 yrs building a car to just cheap out on the heart of the car,,the engine.

I have tremendous respect for your artistic vision and confident work ethic. I knew you had it flip-flopped. So what? Also, unfortunately, knew that many less accomplished mechanic/builder/artist types would focus on the one or two things not perfectly correct. Sorry that humanity can be so sanctimonious. It is an indication of your talent that gurus like Geoff and Doug think their time is well spent in both of your company and on Jolene's car project. I am a motorcycle guy. We just lost Dale Walksler. His vision came to fruition before he passed in the Wheels Through Time Museum. There were guys like you, Doug and Geoff in that shop with that same cool vibe, all the time. We miss him and are again reminded that the great minds take much knowledge with them when their time comes. Watching you work together in the shop is as good as it gets without being there to help . Thanx to you all. Nice job filming, Jolene.

I would think parts for 59 3.4 ltr Jag engine would be hard to find, but there are places to custom cut gaskets. And to save pistons and rings from breakage due to rusty cylinders have to pull the head.
@leesmith21623 жыл бұрын
When you cranked the motor over and put the rag along the top to stop oil from blowing out, would it also stop any particles or shit that could be on top of the pistons from coming out as well
@TheOldaz13 жыл бұрын
Can't believe you did all that without changing/checking the oil filter and without pulling the head to clear all the metal bits that must be in there from the spark plug issue. All good fun though.

I'm a retired mechanic and have diagnosed and built a lot of motors. This is too painful to watch to the end. Chad, love ya but keep your hands on the body work. Leave the motors to guys that do this everyday. You can seriously hurt the motor and yourself with your unsafe work habits. Doug is biting his tongue here! He's being awful kind.
@huey42033 жыл бұрын
Maybe Doug is trying to teach him about engines, we all have to learn at some point and for it being a already stuck engine that they have no idea what really made them sticks is a perfect learning tool for him to teach on it’s not a 10,000$ west engine it’s 200$

Just add grinding dust while you're cleaning off the gasket . Both of them shouldn't be allowed near an engine.

Turn then engine over by hand checking the valve clearance any way over stuck...pull head inspect hand lap in valves,. Grind valve shims under followers. Cheap to just make it a runner .does take a bunch of time for shim adjustments. Cam has to come off 12 times
