In this episode Kuya Doug Marcaida, a USAF Veteran and edged impact weapons specialist identifies common attributes found among weapons, structures and everyday items that can be utilized as self-defense or offensive tactics.

My dad told me that he stabbed one of his classmates with a pencil when he was in 3rd grade. When I was in 4th grade one of my classmates drove a pencil on our classmates head. Filipinos are very resourceful and we try to take advantage the things in our surroundings to make it a weapon for self defense. I'm happy that Kuya Doug is sharing his knowledge of Kali to the world. Bullied kids, and women should learn how to properly and efficiently defend themselves

This just came up on my KZbin feed funny story ... how I learned the hard way that everything around you is a “ weapon “! I was a teenager thinking I knew Karate and my middle brother came into the room ! He saw me doing moves I thought I knew and like my 2 older brothers use to say “ let me know when your ready or think you are tough “! So I get into my set position and tell my brother Chris I’m ready let’s go ! He replies are you sure I said yes !! He then took a folding chair through is at me I had to stop the chair coming in quickly and he was following it lmao he hit me with such force with the most love possible, then helped me up ! I said you cheated He then said “ there are absolutely no rules in fighting and know your surroundings bc everything can be a weapon ! Funny thing is Chris ( the chair guy ) wasn’t half as tough as my older brother Mark ! Every time I thought I was tough they proved to me I wasn’t ! Which made me a very sick yet aware street fighter 👍 Stay safe with this covid-19

I would love to see more Kali and more hand to hand combat videos. I think it's very helpful for people like me who are in "weapons-free zones" (college campus) on a daily basis, and cannot carry a traditional weapon like a knife for personal defense. Then again, with Kali, there is no such thing as a "weapons-free zone" is there?

Kali is the art of weapons and improvised weapons.... Even gangsters and robbers use improvised weapons like baseball bat, ice picks, box cutters and chains to commit crime..... There is no doubt that learning the art of "improvised weapons" is a very effective and functional art.... It also gives you confidence knowing you can use common objects around as weapons....

I go for a jog. While jogging, I look for trash that can be used as a weapon. I find rope, shoe lace, sharp metal and plastic, rocks, etc. I put them in a bag. Then I show my Kenpo class, especially women what I found. I encourage exploration of storm drains and where water flows. You don’t have to carry anything if you have the knowledge of weapons and know where to use it on the body most effectively. Thank you for your videos. SG

I like a lot of what he is saying but as for any weapon being a projectile I disagree. When I was learning weapons i was taught that you never give up your weapon unless one of 2 conditions is met. 1. you have another better or equil weapon on you. or 2. Your opponent already has the weapon advantage as far as distance tools are concerned so you do it as a last resort. I love improvising weapons and have been known to even use books as weapons when nessicary but I also believe in being prepared for the worst case scenario which is why I carry a primary handgun with a spare magazine and a backup pocket pistol at all times and I may have a blade or two on me but not always. If I'm just running to the store for a soda or something I think the 2 guns are fine it's not like I could end up in the wilderness or something and if I do go out to an unpopulated area I bring my blades, an e-tool for the car, and my tactical tomahawk.

I'm not sure if Doug will see this but I was in a fight tonight and I did the hat trick and it worked then I was going to punch him in the throat but we were stopped by his friends. and then they had us start again. but the anything is a weapon thing not everybody respects because I have a bracelet that fits over my knuckles and they told me not to use it. I mean I took off my knifes, phone and charger. ( which I was prepared to use) but the fight ended with me having a chipped tooth on the inside of my mouth and I'm not sure about him but I know his outside right thigh is going to hurt because I did the knee thing. thank you for the videos, they help a lot.

with Kali you can use a even a book, a bottle, a stone, a nail(whether its your 'own nail or a metal nail, doesn't matter), your college jacket, bag strap or you can even bite. Doug forgot to mention projectile weapons such as stones(which by the way you can also use as an impact weapon if you choose the large ones), hot beverage or hot food, a handful of sand, or whatever you have around you on a scenario that can be thrown

I almost forgot, you can use your bag as a shield or a body armor, limiting the areas of target on your body. If you carry a back pack, always wear it in front of your body. If you carry a sling bag, adjust the straps so that you can easily manipulate the bag on your front as a shield.while your stronghand has any kind of weapon in it.

even a spoon if struck on the adam's apple can can kill. i have heard a story when I was almost a teenager that a brawl in a local prison happened while the inmates are having a lunch. Improvised weapons are not a new concept, it's just a matter of realizing an objects potential use. From the classic glass bottle at a bar, the timeless and biblical rock, a cornered woman with scissors, a prisoner-made shiv or shank…. and unfortunately a hi-jacker's use of a box-cutter/utility knife on a plane….
