Fantastic Australian soul/pop from 1979, by one of the finest voices Australia has ever produced. This was a top 40 hit for Doug.

I met Doug at the Crown Casino: with Glenn Shorrock and Dannielle Gaha. He is a true Aussie Legend and all round top bloke. True, real people will be sadly missed when they no longer share their talent and beautiful human spirit with us...... may they always, BE AROUND!

+Bjornlooser I saw Doug and In Focus with Billy Green on guitar and Johnny Dick on drums at Springvale Town Hall in 1970 and I was won. I have just seen Doug at Crown Casino's Palms room with Colleen Hewitt and he hasn't lost anything. What a legend and what a voice! Colleen was pretty darn good too! He'll be touring Victoria later in the year, a must see for any long term follower.

He would have been 24 yo there. It was his first band after moving to Sydney from the country. A year later he started doing his acoustic duet act with his brother Phil, throughout Sydney pubs. And also in a band format, with the Emanuel Brother's Wizz Band.

Not only the great Doug Parkinson, but the Southern Star Band was absolutely hot and typically, Parkinson surrounded himself with the best players available. Tommy Emmanuel, the superlative Mark Kennedy and the sadly now late Duncan Maguire (the latter two probably the best rhythm section in Australia in that era). Great disappointment that band only released the one album and perhaps that is probably my one criticism of Parkinson's career - the lack of recorded work as a lasting testimony to one of this country's finest contempary singers of any genre.

Watching them play live at the Manzil room was an experience in itself. It wasn’t just the great bands that played there, it was all the musicians in the audience. It was THE place to go after you’d finished your own gig, just to catch up with other Muso’s and Crew who were in town. The Manzil Room was the original “after party” before there was even a term for it. And watching Tommy Emmanuel play in Doug's band, was just living in a moment of history. Tommy was just 24 years old, and it was his first band, after moving to Sydney from the country.
