dUg is the GODFATHER of modern rock/metal bass tone. There would be no Nolly Getgood. There would be no Darkglass Electronics. I've been chasing dUgs tone since the song Visions. Finally getting close now that the rest of world has caught up. dUg should be in the top 10 of any rock/metal/prog. bass player list.

@Bigscott4130 Thanks for your feedback. I'm a guitar player, but I have a Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass. I would love to write some bass riffs with the dUg tone. It's just massive

As a guitar player I've always appreciated bass players. I've always set my tone to lean towards mids so the bass could cut through and lock things down. Also, I never wanted guitar to dominate and always gave bassists an opportunity to solo and really tear it up. I love the sound of bass and how the instrument has evolved over the years. Bassists are actually far more open minded and creative than guitarists on average. It's guitarists who are hung up on old, vintage guitars, pickups, tube amps, etc. Bassists have always been more open minded to active electronics, variations in scale length, number of strings, etc. Bassists are having more influence on guitarists than the other way around. Also, speaking of King's X, whom I've been a fan of since 1987, is the very essence of the power trio. In that band there is total synchronicity, and everyone holds their own. I love it. The best experience I ever had in a band was in a trio. I love the very direct energy. I never liked being in a band with a frontman running around like David Lee Roth or Axl Rose. I just find that annoying. A trio is all about the music. Rush is yet another classic trio.

if you are a bass player and feel invisible just stop playing in the middle of a song and watch the whole thing collapse around you.

Doug does it 100. He sings like he's not playing bass & plays bass like he's not singing. Very few bass player/singers can pull that off.

seems crazy that when King's X was in their classic period making albums like Gretchen, Dug was 40 years old. when he was yelling "give me a dollar, give me 50 cents!" at woodstock he was pushing 45!

He does not play his Hammer 12 string much any more but I was lucky enough to see Kings X live at the HOB in Hollywood in the early 90's and they were amazing and the THUNDER ⚡ that comes from the 12 string bass biamped the way dUg was using will melt your face off!

I've met Dug twice a very nice and humble person. Right after seeing Kings'x here in Wichita, Kansas. I was blown away with their sound. Until you see them live, then you really haven't heard them. A very underrated band indeed.😢

Doug, I've been so impressed with your work (& blood, sweat & tears), and you've influenced my attitude you show here. I had it before, you put it more eloquently. Your attitude (and acceptance) is basically spot-on & sharing the emotions are so important. I don't remember where we met on social media, but I love talking & listening to you. You are a great human. *happy dance!*

Dug is awesome. His whole thing about bass platers in the 80’s getting lost in the mix is so on point. Reminds me how Cliff Burton got lost in the mix on early Metallica albums.
