This one pushed me to the brink! SUGAR, GOING, FLING, THING, VICES, (by now I was trying to evaluate icing along with VYING a possible solution). I did also think of eying but I now think that is spelt eyeing - this was a tricky one for me leaading to my 73rd phew moment!

After STARE and DOILY, I knew the I went third and that there was a Y which probably went second. My first thought was xYING, but since the D and L were already eliminated, nothing else seemed to fit. So I went for CHUNK which confirmed the N in the fourth spot, just as I had suspected. This led me to more carefully examine my previous (faulty) thinking and find the word VYING. It's kind of a strange word, so I'm happy to have gotten it in four.

A very slow start, but things picked up with the third guess, and the Wordle was solved on the fourth. LEARN (Only an "N" out of position.) SNOUT ("N" still out of position. Only possible vowels left are "I" and "Y." DYING (Finally some action! "Y", "I", "N": and "G" all in position!! Looks like the only viable word left is Vying.) VYING (Got it in 4!)

OPING is the archaic form of OPENING. You can say it's almost obsolete. OPE (old literary form of OPEN) appeared in the famous Shakespearean line, " ...which like dumb mouths, do OPE their ruby lips, To beg the voice and utterance of my tongue.".
