I wish I would have watched your videos as you were posting them. I literally just completed a ecotec sand rail build and was doing everything as you were, on my own. Lol your experience would have really helped. Except I found someone to program the pcm for $80

Channel is such a great wealth of info!! It appears alpha fab does mostly eco tech ecm programming, any ideas on who might provide a similar flash/programming service for a Mitsubishi? I might just have to get on the lancer forums 😆
@DougBugBuilder5 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure Alpha Fab does not do Mitsubishi programming. Most likely need to check the forums for that. Although might look locally first. Then you don't need to send off the ECM. 👍

Hi Doug, Outstanding work. I have been following the videos adamantly. I have a E37 PCM 2008 Cobalt L61, for which I am planning to convert into a Mini Stock Oval Track car. Rather than purchasing a new harness, I am wondering about building my own standalone harness using the OEM harness and trimming it down, similar to what you're doing in this video. I am wondering how you determine which connectors and sensors are still required, and if you have the pinouts for an E37 L61 2.2L. Thanks in advance!
@DougBugBuilder4 жыл бұрын
Can I assume you have seen the shared folder? drive.google.com/drive/folders/1i0qTcN-1BB5_Lu6umgi9OrvRJKr-0vz3 Check Ecotec pinouts, also check the Harness connectors. That shows basically what connectors you'll need. Minus the VVT plugs. Now differences between the E67 and E37 I'm not sure of. Only way to know that is to get your specific pinouts. Did you see the video where I show how to get the 3 day subscription from GM for your pinouts? If not let me know and I'll link the video for you.

@@DougBugBuilder Hi Doug, I have since logged in and read through your entire folder. I have also removed the harness and labelled each connector. I am now ready to start. I think my main confusion is understanding which circuits turn the ECM "on", and where battery power, ground, and ignition control needs to be run. I have read the schematics and see the main control from the ignition switch seems to travel to the BCM, before I'm assuming sending 12V to the ACC VOL connector on ECM Connector 1. I am then assuming this powers on the ECM. I also see which pin sends "Starter Control" voltage out to the starter and/or starter relay, but I'm unsure which pin into the ECM actually tells the ECM we want to begin cranking. Thanks for any help Doug.

In you wiring, did you find a tach signal wire or pin for the older neg coil type tachs?
@DougBugBuilder4 жыл бұрын
No I didn't. And I looked, I was never able to find anything to hook up a tach to. The only thing I have for a tach is the digital dash setup I have. Which basically displays info from the OBD port.

How do you know what to use and what not to use?
@DougBugBuilder3 жыл бұрын
You need the pinout diagram for the ECU you are running. This will tell you the sensors it's using and where the wires are landed. Then you can remove the wires you don't.

I have a 2.2 ecotec engine that i would like to put in my dune buggy. Can you tell me if i will have any kind of issues with putting it in?
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Hard to say exactly but the Ecotec doesn't take much more room than the air cooled motor. It's a couple inches longer, so depending on your cage setup you might need to extend it a little.
@jaimelopez35986 жыл бұрын
Ok thank you ! Is there advice you can give me for the wire harnes installation?
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
@@jaimelopez3598 If you are really handy with wiring you can do it the way I did. Download the wiring diagram and modify a factory harness with what you need. Then you still need to send your computer to Alpha Fab and have them flash it for you. That'll cost about $350. Or Alpha Fab sells a complete wire harness kit with relays and a computer for $750. With that you just install the harness and you're good to go.

I have just started doing my own internet research and pouring over wiring diagrams, connector pinouts ect. for my project. I just came across this youtube video. I am building a 2005 Cobalt 2.2L & 5spd manual into a dirt track racer to race in the mini stock class. What was your donor vehicle? (year, make, model) Your ecm is completely different than what I have. I really hope mine can be reprogrammed for standalone. Not sure what to do if it can't programmed? Do you know of a web sight that has a list of ecm's that can be programmed standalone? The service # on my ecm is 12589998. I really appreciate the info and effort you put into making these videos. I have subscribed to your channel and will definitely check out your other videos.

Gordon, My ECM and engine is from a 2007 Cobalt. My ECM is the E67. Yours is the older version (not sure what it is called). I'm very confident it can be programmed for stand alone. Alpha Fab did mine and it's working great. I'm sure they will be able to tell you what can be done to yours. This video from my Ecotec series has very valuable info on a website that will get you 3 days of access to GM wiring diagrams for $20. That's where I got most of my info. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fanRaYKrqM9nZpY I hope the videos help, don't hesitate to ask me any questions. Good luck with your build.
