As an owner of one of these I’m sad Doug didn’t put it in Power mode 😢 tightens up the steering and sharpens the acceleration greatly. He would’ve loved it

If this is anything like the 2021 t8, then I would have to say there was nothing special about it. (And expect it would not have elicited much of a response from Doug).I went with (and recently sold) a T6 over the T8 bc it was such a snooze, it wasn’t worth the price premium. And got rid of the T6 bc the reality is, there nothing at all sporty about these Volvos, and I needed more sporty.

I drove the V60 equivalent of this and was shocked what an understeering mess it was. that said, once the esp tries to sort things out and the rear electric axle kicks in, the esp prevents snap oversteer. as nice the rest of the car is, the chassis isn´t. considerably worse than the older model s/v60 :-/

This car does have drive modes actually. They're buried in the infotainment system. There's a Hybrid mode, Pure Mode (all EV), and Power Mode, which kicks the Gas engine on full time and uses the electric motor for a power boost :) Love the videos doug!

I suggested a very simple solution to this to Volvo in their suggestions site. On the home screen just add the different driving mode buttons to the bottom and shrink everything above it that little bit evenly. It would be safer as it would take 1 button press instead of 3 presses. Isn't that what Volvo is all about safety?

For some reason volvo have increased their cars by £10000 in the uk in the last 2 years, but they have cut features and quality. My xc60 T5 awd 2018 was better equipped, better quality than my xc60 B5 2wd but was also £10k cheaper. We get a raw deal in the UK compared to USA buyers, your cars are cheaper and better equipped than UK customers get. You would think we would be offered equal at least. Hey Doug, That hump in the middle is actually where the deactivation plug for the High Voltage battery is. You remove the plug under there to isolate the battery and disconnect the two halves of the battery from each other before doing any work on the High Voltage system of the car. Just something fun to know! (Disclaimer to anyone reading: do not remove that cover and play with the plug. Without the proper training and procedures it can be very dangerous and you could be hurt/killed from messing with it)

I think that's a more common scenario than you think. As of today (2023), the most common thing blocking people from getting an EV is that they're afraid of not being able to make that once-a-year trek to grandma's house 300 miles away. A plug in hybrid with 40-50 mile range would cover most people's daily needs plus, as you mention, they have the gas engine needed for longer road trips.

Same. I love this car. It's got a lot of value. You won't have to refill your tank for thousands of miles if you just plug it in every night and use as much battery as possible. It also has regen braking, so no replacing brakes. Oh, and you can't forget about the EV rebates, which decreases the price of one of these by a considerable amount. Lots of trunk space, leading seat comfort, a nice ergonomic steering wheel, similar to my civic's steering wheel, actually. I like the feeling of the wheel a lot and I love the positioning of it. It also has a pretty sophisticated infotainment system. It's pretty responsive in comparison to others and it actually feels pretty ironed out. I actually think it's only second to Tesla infotainments. AND THE 4.5 second 0-60!! I also just really love the look of everything. The interior and exteriors are both beautiful. This is probably my dream car now lol It's perfect in every way. I can't believe how underrated these are. They're pretty reliable, too. I still see old Volvos on the road which is a good sign.

9:29 There’s a Polestar Performance option when that you turn on via the vehicle settings in the infotainment system. The new 2023 infotainment system is set up differently than the previous model years and all functions are turned on/off through the settings menu. There isn’t a scroll wheel any longer next to the start/stop switch. However, I noticed that engaging Polestar Performance was much more noticeable than the previous “dynamic” drive mode. It’s nice to see a Volvo that’s effectively a sleeper car again! I miss passing surprised people in my old inline six V60.

Say what you will about Volvo, but they are the leader in safety. I was t-boned by a semi in my 05 S40 and walked away like nothing happened. The semi hit the front passenger wheel and the suspension collapsed to absorb the impact. While it totaled the car, it did such a good job of absorbing the impact that none of the airbags needed to go off. Volvos are life savers and there’s a reason other manufacturers follow the safety standards they create

PHEV in ontario (canada) is the way to go imho. the charge network's rubbish and the cold saps EV range in the winter anyways. I just wish more PHEVs were closer to 80km electric range, like the volts of old, and charged faster than 3.7kw. the volvos top out at 3.3kw IIRC.

7-11KW would be nice, so the battery is charged in less than a hour if you want to. And 80km is a bit overkill, maybe. But I see your point, ensure range in the winter for 50km, and open up more possibilities, as well as so the battery isn't cycled as deep..

I own a 23 S60 Recharge Plus. I love it. It has its downsides. No storage. And for that price point, I would expect better storage. It has ambient lighting, but nothing like its competitors where they can change the lighting colors. No biggie, though. The car heats up A LOT when not in electric mode. When I get home, the tings and noises coming from the engine compartment sounds like a new Jersey diner's kitchen. But it rides smooth, it's quick off the line (0-60 in less than 5 seconds), and I get gas about once a month! I opted for the plus edition and not the black edition since I wanted better options for the wheels and the color. The crystal shifter is not necessary as far as I'm concerned. I agree that I wish it had better configuration in the gauge cluster. I would like to see the engine temp, and the boost in the turbo, but like you said, it's a comfortable car that actually has great value!

The S60 T8 used to have the electric, turbo AND a supercharger. I am surprised the deletion of the supercharger didn't get a mention. As for PHEVs, I have one and I like sedans, so I have been seriously considering the S60/S90. However, having heard how one has to dig into the system to find/use various settings is disappointing. Especially considering how a lot of that can be avoided by including physical buttons/switches for commonly used things.

The engine foam has NOTHING to do with pedestrian safety. I used to sell these cars. They are to absorb the horrible rattle from the 4 cylinder engine that ticks like a sowing machine. Sorry Doug, who ever told you that was being... "creative". This car would be perfect for me as 95% of my driving is in-city and 5% highway. The marketing is interesting as on a technical point of vu, hybrids as a general rule are the "worst of both worlds" as there is still all the maintenance and pitfalls of a traditional ICE car as well as the potential for the "electric" issues. Together, this can be a mess, I have seen this in the shop in 2016-2017. This car does also make sense for markets that do not have a full electric support or have limited infrastructure. One thing that I am hearing is that the Google Car Service is... problematic. Give me the old Sensus and the button for the Drive Modes. Others have also stated that the drive mode "button" is buried deep in the Infotainment menu. Pricing wise, if you can get governmental subsidies, then it is worth the extra coin. Lastly, I would bring this to your attention. When you said: "this car will not be that popular, the market has moved onto SUV's and cross-overs", that to me tells me that the marketing in the Auto industry have successfully convinced you that we NEED SUV's. Car manufacturer's know this and they make more money selling SUV"s and crossovers than they do by selling sedans, dare I even say Sportwagens (looking at you VW)! Volvo customers have never been the "Mercedes", "BMW" or "Audi" customers that go after flash and badge of said brand. Volvo customers like to stand out and prioritize comfort, safety, practicality and to a certain extent, environmental awareness. I own a book that was published in 1997 (S70) and there are pages about Eco-responsibility and attention to materials used. Proof of the point, the materials used for the interior of the cars are non-toxic. Leather has been replaced but if one does choose leather, it is sourced in a cruelty free way and so on and so forth. I am looking forward to my 2015.5 XC70 T6 AWD Platinum. Long live the FOMOCO 3.0L Inline Six B6034T. ;)
