FYI - I accidentally left off the Jeep Gladiator from the DougScoring at the end. I prefer the Gladiator over the Tacoma TRD Pro, and the Gladiator has a higher DougScore (24 + 33 = 57); I simply forgot about the Jeep when I was scoring the Tacoma.

Keeping the hand brake is crucial. If you are 4wheeling and have to stop on a steep hill for whatever reason, you pull the hand brake to keep the car from rolling backwards. You apply gas while the brake is still engaged and then release the brake as you apply more gas. This stops the car from rolling backwards and giving you backwards momentum that would cause the wheels spin.

Or, in the immortal words of Temperance Brennan, "PHA-LAAAAAN-GEEES!". Seriously, now, electrical devices break waaaay more often than manual/mechanical ones. Toyota engineers are not stupid, nor are they cheap. This is not a machine for "city driving and more relaxed highway cruising". It is a machine for bringing mountain roads to their knees.

Manual parking brake is a great feature. It used to called and emergency brake and you can still use it if the electronics go out ... eg: in an emergency.

@@melias67 where I'm from In Australia, most medium pickups similar to the Tacoma have 4 cylinder diesels. 0-100km/h in 11+ seconds. Ford/Mazda 5 cylinder diesel about 10.5 seconds. VW, Mercedes 6 cylinder diesel 7-8 seconds. So this Tacoma is up the quicker end of the mid size pickups.

@@melias67 They're the best they have ever been. No doubt about it. My main point in my original comment was if Doug rates a 7. point whatever 0 to 60mph time as a 1/10 I'd like to see his thoughts on the other 80% of cars on the road which would dream of a sub 8 second sprint.

Doug's system kind of just lumps everything together. So the top end of the Acceleration would be all sub 3 second supercars.

The Tacoma doesn't come into its element until you get it off the road and find some mud or dirt trails. I think the best thing about them is the extensive modding community. You really can tailor the Tacoma for whatever you like to do.
