Here is the benefit of owning a 4runner. 200,000 miles later. Everything is still working. You don't need to pay $500 to have a key replace. Technology is great but it has made every car disposable now. Also the 4runners feel solid and does not feel cheap. Ever been in a Cadillac? At 100,000 miles everything feels like its about to fall apart.

@eventusvantos2770
@eventusvantos2770 6 жыл бұрын
Vehicle Virals its not necessary but it is convenient which is why its there. And if it weren't for manufacturers doing that then the whole auto-industry would stil be stuck in the dark ages without advanced technology that have now become standard like abs, traction control etc...... Similarly you may view them as unnecessary today but they are undoubtly convenient and may be a necessity down the road later and they are definitely necessary to push technology forward. That said however its not bad to stick to just the bare bones. Each has its benefits and applications. But in that case, as someone else mentioned they shouldn't be charging you 50k for it unless they can offer high end luxury to go with it etc.

@@mark4tesla You buy a 4Runner to last for 20 years. That's what you're paying for. You can get two $25k Chevy Trax for the same price, but they won't last the same amount of time. If you want something cool and different that you switch out from every 3 - 5 years, this is probably not the vehicle for you. My last vehicles over the past 30 years were a 93 Chevy v6 owned for 13 years. 98 Chevy Lumina 10 years. 06 Pontiac G6 for 11 years. My 2020 4Runner should last me the better part of 20 considering all the other vehicles I owned were well past their half-life when purchased. And, if I ever sell the thing, it's still worth mostly what I've paid for it. Had it almost a year and only put 2,250 miles on it. So yes, it will lats me forever.

if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. that’s the 4Runner motto. Also! you can recline the back seats!!! if anybody is interested, look between the door and the back seat and on a curved piece you’ll see a obscure level, you pull that and the back part of the back seat will recline which is FANTASTIC for road trips

The people who are buying 60k JL wranglers care about technology. Toyota has handicapped themselves. Test driving a TRD pro Vs my new Wrangler was like going from a brand new Honda to a 2004 Honda. I am a massive Toyota fan boy and always owned Toyota or lexus but there is no comparison. The 4 runner doesn't even have the new Tacomas level of tech which is already behind. No android or Apple play in 2018 should fire everyone working on Toyotas electronics.

They're made overseas which is why they're expensive, there's an import tax on 4runners. Also the 50k is only for the TRD Pro; most people would get a SR5 4WD or SR5 premium, which are around the 36 to 38k ballpark before getting any addiotnal options (aside from 4WD).

But, think about this: by building such a long-lasting vehicle, they may not be losing as much as much as you think: if this truck is going to be running for 3x as long a competitor's vehicle, even if it has 3x fewer problems per lifetime of a competitor's vehicle, Toyota won't be losing much. Also, because the parts last longer, aftermarket companies have less of a demand to create the parts, letting Toyota keep most of the parts market to themselves.

The gear pattern comes in VERY handy when off-roading. When you are on a really sharp switchback with a 1500 ft drop off that takes a 5 point turn to complete, you don't need want to have to look at the gear selector to see if you are in R, N or D. You need to know by feel. The FJ Cruiser has the same thing and I am thankful for it every time I am on a trail like Black Bear near Ouray, CO.
@k20z17
@k20z17 6 жыл бұрын
not saying your wrong but the pattern is also there because you need some kind of lockout so it can't accidentally be shifted if you bump it. Most manufacturers use a button but I would imagine this simple pattern uses less parts and is more reliable then a lockout button.

Rolling down all the windows (including back) and opening the sunroof really opens up the ride. My wife owns this vehicle and loves to do this. Toyota is leveraging their dependability and shirking fancy electronics. I'd rather have an "analog" transfer case shift lever than a knob/relay version. This really comes home when stranded while on vacation with some silly code light or item failure. The cup inside the cup holder allows you to actually clean it. These things get gross. A straight-line shift is a lot easier to bump into a bad place while off roading. Yeah, I hate all the warnings, but we seem to be a dense/litigious market..

The 4 runner has always been my dream SUV. I got one new in 2015 and I couldn’t be happier. Took it off road a few times and it drove like magic. The best part about this vehicle is that it gets better as it ages. Based on the history of this vehicle, it may last me 25 years. A friend of mine is waiting for his 96 runner to die so he can get a new one but the truck refuses to die. It is an indestructible tank. While it is true other models may be more fun to drive, they won’t last as long.

I agree, my Subaru has a shift pattern like this and I never have to look or think about what gear I'm in when I back out and go into drive etc because I know it by feel, with just a straight one it's easy to miss, especially with column shifters like my old truck had, I constantly would get on the highway and would wonder why it wasnt shifting because I was in 3 instead of drive, especially because it was a chevy so the gear readout was a tiny screen that couldn't hardly be seen in daylight

When my first of five children was born in 2006, we took him home in my late uncle’s 1991 Dodge Dynasty with the crank window handles. I recall laughing as I rolled down the window and telling my wife that it was one less piece of electronic technology I’d have to replace someday. I recently priced a new 4Runner and came out under $50K. With the pre-owned models priced similarly, I’m planning to buy a 2022 model later this year. My youngest kids are 7 year old twins, and I’m confident we will be taking them to college with that 4Runner in 10 years as well as helping them move into their first home with it in 20 years. He calls it “ancient”-I call it “classic”! Worth every penny, in my opinion.
