I bought the 2019 manual transmission version of this car. It's fantastic, here is why; 1. Fuel economy is on he highway is close to 50MPG and always better than 40mpg even if you are going 80+. So the Jetta gets as good or better mpg than the most miserly of econo boxes. The city miles are very good also but I can't give a number. 2. The base model comes with everything necessary including Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The only possible exception might be heated seats. 3. The steering, ride, braking are all very good. It's not a sports car but is still a nice driving and riding car. Some of the Japanese or Korean offerings in the price range are dead feeling 4. The base model can be had for $16,000 - $16,500 plus tax, title, license. Other choices in that range are not as nice. 5. Nice Warranty. 6 years, 72,000miles My only complaint is that there is no off throttle deceleration. When you release the throttle or when down shifting there is no resulting deceleration of the car. It feels like something in the induction prevents vacuum; possibly as an anti pollution strategy to prevent crank case gas from pulling up past the rings? Maybe because the engine displacement is so small that there just is not much to off set the weight of the car? People with automatic transmission cars would never notice. Manual transmission cars can be hard to find but in my view, worth it

Awful advice. Car maintenance/repair is not some magic art. It's nuts and bolts. If you go to a poor independent mechanic, you will get poor work. Same is true of dealerships except they charge drastically more. Don't you think dealership mechanics ever get fired for poor work? I have known several. One was a meth addict. I don't think that I would have trusted his work. Just last month I had a Toyota tech swear up and down to me over his mother's grave that the 4.7 in the Tundra has a timing chain and not a belt. He's wrong. I even know that and I don't make a living wrenching on Toyotas.

Wait what was wrong with the last Gen? I've got one and it's amazing. It replaced my BMW 335d that needed $4k of work and also we had just gone through the TDI ordeal (they gave us lots of money). The jetta is not as powerful as the BMW but it is peppy and fun. But my other car is a truck so the jetta feels like a go cart in comparison. "Adequate" is a good description. But the fuel economy is great, almost as good as the diesel cars we had. Almost. On long trips we get over 40 easy. The interior is nice and everything laid out well. People hate on the mk6 because its interior quality took a big hit from the mk5. Honestly though, they brought the price way down, and in my opinion, it's a much more fun, stylish, respectively powerful (if you get any engine except the 2.0 N/A) alternative to the American/Japanese counterparts. My Jetta has also been more reliable than Japanese cars I've owned in the past - currently has 88k miles or thereabouts, and has only needed a new throttle body sensor (covered under warranty). If you look at Hondas, Toyotas, etc from 2011 (when the mk6 came out) - it was certainly a viable option. Don't plan on getting rid of mine anytime soon.

There is a rule that batteries should be at least 30cm away from the point of contact. So they just build the same platform and think later about adding stuff. Also more material to crumble equals more absorbtion equals higher safety rating without doing anything ground breaking. And also most of costumers just love to have everything all in one.

I specifically got my 2018 Jetta SE because the 2019+ Mk7 Jetta is bigger, uglier, softer-riding, and if you want a manual transmission your only choices are the base S model or the GLI.

I agree and disagree. I have a 2011 Jetta, first year of the mk6 and I love it! Its the sport with the 2.5l NA engine. Thing drives like a beast and lasts forever. It's a weekend car now and has 260,000km on it while still driving like an "affordable sport trim sedan" should. I'm not sure what Doug means by it feeling cheap because if you get into any other 2011 sedan in its class they all seem like their from 2007. Confusion hit me when Doug started down playing the mk6.

I don't understand why they won't put out a small quantity of high performance Jettas with the 290 hp Golf R engine, high performance differential and a manual transmission. I'd buy one.

I agree, rented one back in 2015 from Enterprise. It was the most economical car at the location I came to because somebody snagged the Chevy Sonic right before I got there LOL. 1.8 TSI with all the sport upgrades with the big wheels with aggressive Rim lock sport tires. Found out that was a $1,700 stand alone upgrade. Car drove like it was on rails!

@@chase1897 The issue is the average repair cost when compared to its Japanese rivals, which is fine in an Audi where it offers Quattro and and a sportier than average experience...in most cars, but it's hard to justify the premium cost of repairs on an economy car. I LOVE my Mk 7 GTI but it's not cheap to own, $400 DSG fluid change, and I'm looking forward to $500-$1500 to blast the carbon off the back of my valves at 50k miles. While I might be able to do some of this work myself, the average buyer won't.

@@chase1897 I agree. As a guy who drove Jettas in the past, it does feel like a compact executive car. Funny enough I drove Skoda Octavia and altho its the same basis, the Octavia doesn't have the same feel you get from the Jetta. Octavia seems like a reasonable family sedan while Jetta really does feel executive in a way. Problem is with these cars are the DSG gearbox reliability issues which they still suffer a lot from it. Give it a reliable powerterrain and it could pass the sales of the Corolla easily.

Many people in Europe tow small trailers to move dogs to go hunting, or camping with their sedan or wangon for daily use. It is in the USA that people always think of massive tailers.
@Screamn.4 жыл бұрын
In America, the average person can afford a larger house and more land. When I'm landscaping, how do you expect me to move dirt, which weights ~2,500lbs per cubic yard with a car that has less than 1,000lbs towing capacity?
@FedericoPrieto134 жыл бұрын
It is not that you "can afford" bigger houses. Actually, here in Europe houses are cheaper than in America (in average) and is more easy to buy a house for the average family. The difference is that you want bigger houses in a suburb because you don't plan to buy a summer house, neither travel so often as the average European do. We prefer to live in the city, the closer to the city center the better, is more efficient in time (no commutes to work, most likely you go to work walking, close to schools, night live, more efficient use of electricity, public transport, schools, everything) . To you towing a small trailer seems dumb, but for an European, going to his summer house or going to hunt is the best option, don't need to move 4 tons of equipment. Obviously, if you can't afford a Summer house, and if you don't go out never to the cafe, bar, theatre, etc because you live far in a suburb, you may have the tendency (the average American I mean) to buy a big boat, a big trailer, and a humongous truck, so when you go out you need to move (tow) a lot of equipment for your camping weekend.
@kevinnorris65584 жыл бұрын
Federico Prieto It’s the same in America though. Americans have gravitated towards cities for centuries and have only recently started to move towards suburbs. Even so, many Americans move out of cities due to the high costs of living in one. And from my understanding , summer houses are popular among wealthier Americans. Large vehicles have been part of American culture for many, many decades so it’s not surprising that the trend of larger vehicles still carries on.

@@kevinnorris6558 I'm talking about the middle class average. In the US, the middle-class average live in a suburb, 30' -45' away from downtown. Buy a big house thinking in it as an investment. Most of the free time is spent inside doors and some weekends the family go out camping, fishing etc.... In the other side, most Europeans middle-class, live in the city, go shopping/groceries, two or three blocks away of home every single day (no need of trucks to move hotel-size packs of toilet paper and 200 pounds of groceries), live in an apartment that is not seen as an investment, but as a basic need, but also buy a house in the family town for the summer or an apartment in the beach ( taking about middle-class here, not rich people). Different needs, different realities. I'm not judging Americans, if we had to pay half for the gas, I'm damn sure that more people here would start to buy big V8, and if water prices were lower, many people would want bigger lawns the same way that if we start to use ticky tacky instead of clay bricks, many more people would start to buy houses with more rooms than needed.
