The AMG 6.2L V8 would likely be forever one of the best sounding non-American big displacement V8 ever. Ferrari NA V8 are smaller displacement & usually higher pitched which resembles F1 engines of the distant past, but the AMG V8 could be mistaken for being American but instead had DOHC instead of OHV.
@nikolasmunro63593 жыл бұрын
Cant agree more. The SLS, C63 and C63 BS have the best V8 out of europe hands down.

I wouldn't go that far. Best sounding AMG is the V12 that was used in the older s class models which is very close to the engines they built for the Pagani Zonda. And while turbo will never sound as great as NA they still sound great and are no where near as much of the mosquito gas guzzlers that NA engines are ;)

A couple other quirks you didn't mention: When you put the traction control in "sport" mode, and put the car in S+ mode, you can perform launch control. You keep your foot on the brake, then turn the mode selector knob all the way to the right past "M", as if you're turning up the music really loud. This won't change the mode to "M" but rather display on the dash a prompt to use launch control. Pull right paddle for yes, left paddle for no. Then launch control as you normally would. Unlike more robust system's like Porsche's though, you only have 7 seconds, or it will auto-cancel. Another thing is that if you turn the traction control fully off by holding the traction control button, it isn't actually "OFF". The car will still butt in by cutting power to the engine if it thinks you're in really deepshit. Some people, learn this the hard way. Let's say you're at an intersection where you have a stop sign, but cross traffic does not. You see a car coming your direction and you wonder if you can make it across before they get to the intersection. You think to yourself, yeah probably not, and decide to wait but then decide you could actually make it. As you might've imagined, you've killed a couple seconds pondering this so you don't have much time, so what do you do? You mash the throttle. Depending on how hard you floor it, the steering angle, and the road surface that you're gripless tires or on, the car might decide it won't let you floor it and cut power, rather than apply brakes. There is away to fully turn it off though: First you take the key and turn it to ignition position 1. (1 tick) Then hold the Call button on the steering wheel and then within a second hold the "OK" button and keep holding both for 5 seconds. This will take you into the maintenance menu. This is generally just so the technician to reset the service indicator. If you scroll through the menu though, you will find an option for "dynamometer mode" If you turn this on, then start the car as normal, absolute all traction control will be off. Why is this hidden away though, and why do you not want to do it? Because it will also turn off all the other driver aids, including ABS! Also one correction. The passenger side seat isn't "fully" electronically controlled. You can only control the tilt of the seat back and the rear height of the bottom. To move it backwards and forwards, there is a manually lever on the bottom left. You can even confirm this if you pull the lever on the back of the driver vs. the passenger seat. The driver's seat (at least in cars with back seats will automatically move forward. The passenger seat on the other hand will not. The headrest is also manually adjustable, as well as the front height of the seat bottom using the big dial towards the front.

The power seats variation has to do with options. Mercedes cars have three types of seat controls: manual, semi-powered and finally fully powered with memory. The semi-powered seats have the control buttons for tilting the seat on the side of the seat, while the manual lever to push the seat front and back is under the front side of the seat. This way all the controls for the seat are close to each other. And they save up on cables and nice panels to put it all the way on the door. The fully powered seats with memory have their controls on the door, easy to see and use. So all that told, what Mercedes did in this 130.000 dollar car is putting a luxury seat left and a cheaper seat right to save production that would cost them around the value of a ham sandwich.

Doug- You should make videos on Saabs! They have some crazy quirks and features and they're some of my favorite cars, you should try to find a Saab 900 SPG pre 1990's, or a Saab 9-3 Viggen which is another one of their sport models. Saabs brought turbocharging to the mainstream and it would be really really cool to see a video on them by you because they have so many cool quirks. Calling it now, the newer Saab 9-3's have the coolest cup holders you'll see in a car. Nightpanel is also not something you'd want to overlook.

It's pretty weird how often I hear americans bringing this up. In Germany, hardly anyone knows about this and even at dealerships this doesn't seem to be well-known at all. I don't know what started this to become such a common thing to mention in the USA but it's pretty much non-existent here. Might however be the weather or maybe the way of driving affecting this idk

That head bolt issues is blown way out of porportion, I've owned and own the m156 engine and know many people that owns the m156 engine and none of us never had that issue, also no one we know ever had that issue. That issue is so rare that it's more of a tall tale that people only hear about but never experienced it personally.

I’ll always remember getting a ride in the back roads in one of these. The speed and agility is awesome and like you mentioned those seats are very comfortable too. I️ was warned beforehand that it could be a rough ride but the blend of luxury and performance is accomplished nicely. Even as a passenger, this car is a very special driving experience.

@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
Hilarious! I caught that and thought....Whaaaat?
@Senekha866 жыл бұрын
I dont get it. It has no power at 0 rpm but it can have torque of course. the pistons trying to rotate the crankshaft produce torque, even if the crankshaft dont rotate and therefore you get no power out of the system. (except from maybe heat.)
@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
Lars St. You're right you don't get it. It's hilarious because no one uses 0 or 50 rpm as a measurement for torque. So both numbers are funny and the fact that he didn't edit it out.
@kclark80806 жыл бұрын
Wait! Do Pistons rotate the crankshaft??? :-)
@Senekha866 жыл бұрын
They are connected via the con-rod with the crankshaft. Forcing the pistons to move, rotates the crankshaft.

Wouldn't the coat racks in the back work just as well for front seat driver/passenger as they would for people with back seats? Also, the traction control in my 6 year old Audi works exactly the same way. Push button for Sport, hold down for traction control off.
@Heidelaffe6 жыл бұрын
I always use the coat hanger in the back. There is none in the front, so what else would you use? Also it is a lot more expensive and complicated to get rid of all the details he mentions. The traction control button in my BMW and my Volkswagen also works this way. And in my opinion it makes a lot of sense as you have to know what you are doing if you deactivate it.

I love your reviews Doug, Please don't be so flippant.. ie: condescending in your reviews.. yeah ok.....condescending is a rough term...we all love tongue in cheek stuff..Honest reviews are rare.. but... and this is a big BUT... you thankfully have access to some amazing vehicles.. and having a "tongue in cheek moment" about back seats and their relevant airbags ... really? Necessary? It's probably just me... In Aus these were pushing well over 220k+ AUD.. even still to this day....for a garage queen...epic cars!! 6.2.s forever!!!
