being one of those cats must be a weird experience, imaging chilling in a cage and this random dude starts touching you all over the place then being lifted in front of a crowd of strangers clapping without knowing knowing what they’re clapping for, cats probably think they’re part of a cult

Show cats shart showing when they are as young as 4 months old, so by the time they are adults at a minimum of 8 months the owners and exhibitors know which ones will "show" well so their careers should continue. My Max who retired with us was so "showy" (as our vet put it) that he would still strut his stuff even at the vets office. So, the good ones are used to it and can actually enjoy the attention.

@@andartharasri9785 Yes, especially the sound. So thankful they use microphones for this 🎤 just starting a mic-less AllBreed final with and it's quite hard to hear the judge. While I can clean the audio up some using a video editor - which I do, it's difficult to bring up someone's voice without creating audio distortions that sound too unnatural to be useful.

i just started watching cat shows and what i love about it is the way they complement every cat, no negativity at all. also i've just learned so many new ways to say "great" xD

The negativity will come later if you ask in private. It is important to hear, because that is the point of showing them - to improve the lines to adhere to standard. But yes, if I did a beauty pageant I don't want a judge to tell me I'm not tall enough or thin enough in front of the crowd (I already know it but I hope my competitors are also, LOL).

It shows off their "poofy" sort of coat texture. They do different things with other longhairs with completely different textured coats, like when they take the tip of a Maine Coon's tail and shake it a little bit to show off that luxurious plumage.

They also had "pet me" cats, breed ambassadors that were not competing in the show for the spectators to come to meet. As part of our "collection" at home we had a former Somali National Winner as a pet that had been attached to me at the hip for the 6 years we'd had him at that point (had him for 13 years total--miss him every day); 2 of the Pet Me cats were the 2 Somalis that had Nationaled since my Max. Both completely regal creatures who knew how beautiful they were; you should have seen the way their people looked at me when I told them "Oh, yeah, I've had Mittsnpaws Miromax as a house pet ever since he retired." There are pictures of all 3 of them on the Somali Breed Council website National Winners page.

I was at that show was a spectator--1000 cats!! I was mostly out in the benching area, visiting briefly with exhibitors that I knew and looking around at breeds I wanted to know more about or at those that are so rare that I had never actually seen cats of those breeds before.

These Internationals were really BIG shows, which is exactly why I vided so many of them - so many cats and breeds in one place and usually with decent lighting (which matters a lot for viding). I seldom visited the benches (or any other area) 'cause viding, though there were some special occasions like visiting a bit with Scrimshaw Seance of Amara 😊

It's really from a different age, 1st cat show I'm aware of was at Crystal Palace, Sydenham, London, on July 13th, 1871. I am curious to see how they adapt. Websites are easy enough, but attracting people to participate may prove otherwise.

No, I doubt cats would like weed 😏 it's breeding for disposition and subsequent home life ☺ Which is still kinda surprising as a natural given for cats is they don't like other cats 😾 particularly unknown to them cats. Which is exactly what a cat show is full of 🎭 This is not always true, though 😤

Not like dog shows at all (other than perhaps conformation 🐩) as they're judged against a written breed standard, and so, supposedly, not directly against each other 🍎🍊 While I do enjoy Cat "Agility" - that's due mostly to uncooperative cating. I can just see "handlers" trying to run cats around in circles 😄

Beautiful cats, but never really understood cat shows to begin with, isn't mixed and varied cats better for the species itself than 1 type breeding? Same for humans isn't it, doubt it would be a good idea for white people only to breed with other white people, variation is good and keeping us more healthy.
@johnblake4589
@johnblake4589 4 жыл бұрын
I'm going to answer your question in two parts. Firstly, concerning cats. Yes. It isn't very good for the animals, there are three reasons for this: 1- Very strict standards: sometimes the requirements can be a few cm either way. As a result, breeders chose animals which resemble one another so as to keep as close to the definitions as possible. This is incredibly unnatural as there is supposed to be a certain amount of variations. The idea of a "perfect cat" (or dog) breed is absurd in itself. 2- Inbreeding: when breeders attempt to breed two cats that are very similar, the easiest place to look is within the same bloodline (brothers, sisters, cousins, etc.) as there is the least amount of room for diversity and a cat which would stray away from the desired "perfection". Unfortunately, this also means that no new genes are coming in. That's an issue as most species have "good" and "bad" genes. Bad genes meaning diseases, physical flaws such as lameness, behavioral, etc. Normally, these would stand a good chance of being cancelled out through breeding with another individual with different genes as it takes two sets of bad ones for the issue to be passed on. This is especially bad with kitten or puppy mills who only care about money and not about the animals and who will breed individuals with crippling genetic health issues solely for profit. Notionally, a "good breeder" wouldn't breed an animal with these flaws so as to avoid them being passed on. In practice though, it does happen. If you want a human example, look at the Habsburgs. 3- Poor standards: What I mean by this is that some of the standards are actually bad for the animal to begin with. This is especially prevalent with dogs of the flat faced variety (pugs, bulldogs, etc.) who have a terribly reduced life expectancy and tons of health issues. The same is true in some cats such as Persians who have a lot of issues due to their legs being too short and a flat face which causes breathing problems. Combine the two issues above and you're bound for trouble. Please bear in mind this is incredibly simplified. If you look at dogs however, the issues are more prevalent as they've been being bred like this to very rigid standards for longer (150 years or so). Give it a few decades and the problems will become more prevalent in the cat community. Regarding humans. There is no such thing as human "races" or "breeds", that's a 19th century invention. A white person is no more related to another white person than they are a black or an Asian and vice versa. We are all Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Issues arise when directly marrying or having a child with another family member (hence why it's illegal even if you ignore the morality aspect). There have been many historical examples of such practices, especially among the aristocracy across the globe and for the most part, they are all marvelous illustrations of why its a bad idea. Northern France for instance, had a long standing problem with cousins marrying cousins and now has one of the highest rates of people with learning difficulties and mental handicaps in the country. However, the gene pools are such that the humanity could likely continue quite happily with no interracial marriages. In most societies, they've only really become prevalent in the past 70 odd years. Before then, it would have been unthinkable or at least highly frowned upon. In some cases, there also wasn't the ethnic mix in Europe, Africans, Arabs and Asians only really started to arrive in large numbers following the Second World War. At any rate, we're talking about millions and in some cases billions of individuals as opposed to a few thousand or sometimes even hundred in the case of purebred dogs and cats, many of which can actually trace their lineage back to a single individual or a handful of individuals. There also hasn't been the same "selection process" that I mentioned further up, so thankfully we come in all shapes and sizes. Just to be clear, I'm not saying people shouldn't intermarry racially. They should be free to do whatever they want and be with whomever they see fit within reason. I'm just saying there isn't the same genetic need to do so.
