When my step dad (the best man in the world) passed away. My mum couldn't decide which song to have played at his funeral. I asked her 'what CD was in his player in his workshop!?' (His pride and joy) Turns out it was Dougie... this was the song we played at his funeral, id never heard it, or of him, before but now, I find it such a comfort! I assumed he had loved dougie for years.. turns out he saw him for the first and only time in 2017 (maybe 18) at Cornwall festival and fell for his music, apparently bought the cd there and then and listened all the time.. He paid for my wedding and then it was postponed (covid) . He passed away so unexpectedly, and just weeks after what would have been my wedding day, if it wasn't for covid he would have been there! 11 months later, our wedding went ahead. It was amazing but our special man was missing! My husband, mum and I will be spending our first wedding anniversary, where he first saw dougie, watching him! at Cornwall Festival 🥰 It will be bitter sweet but it will be amazing and I can't wait!! This song does and always will mean the world to me His love WILL carry me

How we are all so vulnerable & the gift of love is wonderful & nothing may last forever, but to be here surrounded with love for our children is simply priceless & no wealth could equal It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard & the sweet melody is haunting

I was listening to this song in 1993 preparing a cot for my expected baby, the baby was still born shortly after, and I have always hope the baby heard the song before it died . Couldn't ask for a nicer or more meaningful one for him to have heard, and it always reminds me of him and moves me. Thanks for posting as I lost my copy and couldn't remember the name of it.

It's a thin line that leads us and keeps a man from shame And dark clouds quickly gather along the way he came There's fear out on the mountain and death out on the plain There's heartbreak and heart-ache in the shadow of the flame But this love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me The strongest web will tangle, the sweetest bloom will fall And somewhere in the distance we try and catch it all Success lasts for a moment and failure's always near And you look down at your blistered hands as turns another year This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me These days are golden, they must not waste away Our time is like that flower and soon it will decay And though by storms we're weakened, uncertainty is sure And like the coming of the dawn it's ours for evermore This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me This love will carry, this love will carry me I know this love will carry me Embed

My partner and I saw Duggie Maclean perform at a small venue in Settle this year. Among the many beautiful songs he performed that magical evening was, 'This Love Will Carry.' It summed up all the things we have gone through over the past two years, which has made our love for each other stronger. Dougie, you have a magic gift in your song writing: the words stand alone as poetry. When put to your music they convey feelings and emotions few other song writers have managed to achieve. Peter R C

I just saw Kathy yesterday at Univ of Kansas and she sang this song. Got home today and was looking it up, which led me to this video and to Dougie who is completely new to me. So, I've spent the last couple of hours listening to song after song of his before coming back to this one. At 53, I don't find a whole lot of music that's unfamiliar to me that I want to listen to, so I'm really excited about finding him! Brilliant stuff!

I was watching a Kathey Mattea video of Cheryl Wheeler's Further and further away. Something about the expressions on one of the faces in the band caught my eye. Looked at the credits and, for the next several hours was absorbed with Doogie MacLean's music. Amazing and beautiful lyrics, music. I'm a straight guy, but there's something so compelling about him that's beautiful on so many levels.

+Ken Norian Excuse me? "I am a straight guy" Maybe I am missing something. Ãre you implying there is something weird about listening to Dougie? What a seriously odd remark. And I am so happy that you are "Straight|!" Actually I think you maybe need ro take a look at that? By the way Dougie is a happily married Ckristian man with a family . A great Call deserves a return: Excellent worx, thanx; also: Without unions we'd still be paid like our great grandparents, stale loaf of bread and a can of beans a day. No nukes is good nukes. Without freedom of the press there would be no other rights being defended successfully. All life are needed threads in the fabric of life, "...we(e),..." cannot allow to be torn asunder. All that's needed to spark an evolutionary leap in humanity's growth is the fact that there's no profit, pleasure, nor power in manipulation, destruction, murder, genocide, extinction, etc., experiential knowledge which one can grow in the evolution until they experience it for themselves, etc.. If you're not taking bullets you're making them. Walking in nature's balance, giving back to it's abundance, illimitable potential, indivisible as life, you, can reach one, teach one, to self-actuate, evolve, turn 360 degrees around, back to the evolution and the future humanity will only have if we each do :) reality Copy, share as you will.

Well, as much as I respect Dougie and his songwriting, I think this version is the best I've seen....in large part because of Kathy. The song is fuller and more beautiful with her harmonies. Also, the band here is wonderful. We can respectfully disagree though....there is room for all opinions.
