Glad you enjoyed it - it's one of my favourite places, and a kayak is a great way to explore it.

Great stuff again Doug , lovin the funky rod rests , you give me the fear though every time you light that stove in the tent 🥺😁,keep up the treat vids 👍

Yeah - it kind of dawned on me I was being stupid when I took a rod rest in one day on my kayak - there's really not much point! Honestly, I am always careful with the stove in the tent, so it's guyed out fairly securely and there is decent ventilation too. I never leave it burning overnight either.

Thanks👍 I've just learned to grab my chances whilst I can - the weather was crap in the run up to Christmas but I've managed a couple of trips since New Year. Etive is a beautiful place to fish even if most are pretty small. Cheers, Doug

It's certainly a very beautiful place, although definitely better on a calm, sunny day than when the wind and rain get going. I'm getting better at timing my trips these days which helps a lot - as does having more time now that the ankle biters have grown up🙂

Hi Doug, stumbled across your channel by chance and absolutely loving your vids, so inspirational. Lots of good angling channels on KZbin, but yours is very unique and like I said so inspirational, not to mention educational, every day a school day, keep them coming.

Thanks a lot and glad you're enjoying my videos! I just like presenting what I do, and to me fishing is really just an excuse to get out and play with tents, boats and the like - all against the most beautiful and wild background I can find. Preferably with a bit of sun, just to make the illusion complete🤣🤣

Wonderful images, well done Doug. You picked a great spot for the morning sit in the sunshine as well . I just tied a few rigs, so maybe I should put some new line on my ABU too. Keep it up!

Thanks Ash👍 - I do like places where I can pitch up in a sheltered spot close to the shoreline. Given the tiddlers that inhabit this part of the loch, snoozing in the sunshine generally beats the fishing🤣

Thanks John - there's a reason why Etive is one of my favourite places to spend a night in a tent. It's a very pretty place in the right conditions🙂

Thanks very much, although I think most of the quality is provided by Etive and her mountains rather than my scurrying about setting up camera shots!

Thanks Martin. I'd recommend having a look at www.kayakfishing.blog and particularly www.kayakfishing.blog/videos.html as this guy has done a lot of work on his Perception Triumph and has vastly more experience than me - I used his videos and blog when working out what I wanted to do myself.

That is a great film Doug. Super weather, stunning place. I was wondering whether my kayak would be any use on Etive - you have answered my question.
@Corkwing-DougK
@Corkwing-DougK Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've probably kayaked more on Etive than anywhere else as it's a lovely way to get around the loch. You do need to watch for wind that just funnels straight along the loch but otherwise it's pretty straightforward. I normally launch from Glen Etive at the head of the loch as it gives better access for camping but Taynuilt will get you better fishing usually. Tides are pretty minimal except at the narrows around Taynuilt/Bonawe which can get nasty at times.

@@Corkwing-DougK thanks Doug for taking the time to reply. It will be a great option for me that is at least three hours closer than Skye! Somewhere for a shorter trip, like yours. Tight lines.

Greedy🙂 Honestly, it takes enough time doing 10-12 a year and I've no idea how people can produce them weekly. I enjoy putting videos together but I also like to spend a bit of time fishing (and the rest) too. Same with most things I guess - you don't want your hobby to become a chore!

Completely understand the 10-12 a year,I could not summon up enough gumption to even do one a year,I'm lucky if I even bother taking photos,wouldn't know how to go about making videos never mind to the quality you put out,what I mean is I don't watch t.v. at all just documentarys,movies and to a few KZbin people on subjects I'm interested in,the ones I subscribe to I can't get enough of especially now the dark nights are here 😊

Etive is such a beautiful spot and beautifully shown - again! I loved the sound of the swans or geese wings during the kayaking. Congratulations on finding a break in the weather! I was wondering with the fishing, you always seem to only use mackerel. Is this because other baits like lugworm or ragworm dont work or are not easy to get hold of?
@Corkwing-DougK
@Corkwing-DougK Жыл бұрын
Many thanks - I wondered whether anyone would notice the swans (there are quite a few in Etive)! Mackerel or bluey are the most versatile and effective baits for Etive and I've never found lug to be of much use on the west coast. You can catch on it, but mackerel is generally better and easier to get and store. Rag can be very good if you're targetting the likes of pollack or wrasse along the rocky margins, but I find it quite hard to get hold of and then it gets destroyed very easily by bait robbers like poor cod. If my supply was better then I'd definitely use it more often.

Thanks for a great video, I live on Loch fyne and should get out more fishing, on your setup do you not use weights? Is it the bait that acts as a weight? Thanks
@Corkwing-DougK
@Corkwing-DougK Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul - it's maybe not clear in the close up shots but I normally use a 6oz breakaway grip lead for shore fishing on Etive. You can get away with lighter gear and I've managed OK with a bass rod and 3 or 4oz of lead before, although you may struggle to get the distance you want.
