Exactly, I have seen a lectured of a historically knowledgeable man who has pointed out (besides of course many things we knew, like that many nations had slavery, UK and US were first ones to stop slavery, etc.) But also how at least the UK colonialism (as that's the one he spoke about) brought about justice, equal rights, education, medicine, to make colonized nations. (Ghandi famously refused medicine for his wife, but later accepted it for himself.) He was also not-white as far as I remember, if race somehow matters more to you than facts and reality. I (personally) feel no guilt about what people may or may not have done long before I was born. The countries of the former British Empire asked for and were give independence. The people's of those countries then had a responsibility to built the prosperity of those countries, just as Japan did after WWII. Reparations have been paid 100 million times back,look at the free jails and legal fees,handouts of social security for them and their kids,medicine and operations and the list is inexhaustible. Then you can add on the 12 000 million for overseas aid budget that's been going on for too long. Here is a thought, if no European pioneers visited the continent of Africa and they never left Africa, what would it be like. There would be no electricity for a start because they would not have discovered in a billion years and no electricity, no nothing. Goats ,chickens and crops.

What's so hard to understand? The analogy is hosting people in your private home. Would I invite 100 people to my house? No. I don't have the infrastructure. I'd also not appreciate them appropriating my rooms, my kitchen, my bath, and my decor. It's that way with my country. My country has a certain cuisine, it has decor, values, x amount of space, and that space should be reserved for those who have skin in the game. ie, they are actively supporting the infrastructure.

I lived in Nigeria when it was a British colony. I was there during independence in 1960. Nigeria is a prosperous country. Could it be that it benefited from British influence? I have heard that countries that were not part of colonialism are poorer and are not doing as well. Could there be a connection?

I am a dual citizen. I am an American by birth and the fact that I was raised in the United States. In 2009 I moved to Sweden. A few years later I became Swedish. The application for citizenship is definitely not in English, nor should it be.

Have traced my family on four sides, back to the 1600's. None of them rich, mostly farmers or farm workers. Most of them worked like slaves BUT definitely never owned slaves. A few of them mariners but cannot see any of them owning the boats they sailed on. A fair few emigrated to Australia and America, but not rich enough to own slaves. So there you go like most of the present population of our Country, no need to feel guilty about anything. However, think that maybe those whingeing people should be grateful to us. For two long years this Country ,with help from volunteers from some other Countries, fought and died against Nazi Germany, led by a man who wanted to rule the World. North Africa was one place where a lot of those brave people died fighting HITLER. Maybe it is time those ungrateful whingers said THANK YOU to GREAT BRITAIN AND HER ALLIES. If they had lost that war remember Hitler wanted to rule the World.
