Doug, your carving videos are simply the best. I have learned lots from you and you have given me confidence to carve my own works of simple art. I also love the camping/fishing videos but I really think the carving is your personal niche when combined with the others it is even better. Thanks so much for doing these. 😊

Ok Doug, i just finished this little fella; my first ever carving. Followed the tut from go to whoa and had a ball. Wow, those tiny face details really teach you some patience 😳. Took my time with it and it paid off, plenty of room for improvement of course, but am over the moon with the results...can't wait to start the next one. Thanks Doug. BTW used one cutting glove on my left hand and jewellers cutting tape on thumb and two fingers on my right (knife hand). I felt safe and I found using the tape was a better method over wearing two gloves; I found a glove on my right hand made holding the knife tight a little problematic. YMMV of course. FWIW I bought a 1 1/2" OCC Straight Knife. For someone who has never used a carving knife before i felt this was a great starter knife. Sharpened well on a strop and held the edge for some time. Will probably add a smaller (1/2" or 3/4") detail knife later for stuff like small eyes on gnomes 😄. Coffee coming you way Doug.

HI, Doug. So nice to find your videos in my e-mail box and this one's a treasure. I wondered how long it took you to carve one of your characters. I also wondered how you sharpen your knives to be so sharp that they cut through wood like it's butter. Then there's one more thing that has me baffled: How on earth did you carve those little hamsters to look and act so real, even to the squeaky toys inside them? (!!!) It's a treat to watch you carve so easily, so I'm looking forward to your other videos where you illustrate your many talents and skills, and also to the next Longhouse build installment. Take care, Doug. :0) Donna B.
