Yours is the best teaching site I have found Doug. Your carvings are detailed but your teaching skills and guidance are second to none. Because of you I have carved a number of characters thank you 😁

I have just finished painting my Christmas Pickle. It is my first carve! Not as nice as yours, but I am pleased with it, nonetheless. Thank you for your clear and helpful steps. I have watched many of your videos and will continue to do so.

How in gods name are you just sinking the knife into the wood? I am literally sweating my ass off to get this knife to cut that deep. My cuts are awful and my hands are just literally shaking. How are you doing this?????

Hi Doug, from down under, (Australia) Queensland. I'm another beginner at 73, and thoroughly enjoying your instructional videos. Before I discovered your videos, I shopped on Amazon and purchased a kit from Hutsuls, unfortunately Scandinavian ground and thick. Okay for roughing out but not so good for detail and I found out the hard way that stop cutting behind the ears of the bear, split the back of the head off. Rewind video and start again. I have now ordered two Halvie knives from Gokhan and can't wait until they arrive. I hope that you don't mind that I mentioned you as the person responsible for my purchase , as you mentioned them on your KZbin channel but not as an endorsement or recommendation but as a good quality tool. Please keep up the great videos, I've been going right back to your early videos and can see a lot of opportunities for me to pass time with. Thank you Doug. Cheers Geoff

Hey Doug, you should crate a 1x1 elephant tutorial. I’ve got a few folks on my tik tok wanting me to carve one and I don’t really know how I’d go about it.

Love the opening comedy!! Too Funny. Quick way to cut the outer skin on a golf ball is to use PVC pipe cutters. Video attached goes all the way through, but one just marks their ball and go around easy to just score the outer layer. Very quick and clean method. kzbin.infoyMrIloUQUQI

Doug, do you have to use willow or will other woods work?

Love it, Doug! Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you don't do much chainsaw carving anymore (or do you?) Do you prefer the knives and handtools? Just curious. I just realized today you had some older chainsaw videos because you mention it in your tree 1x1 video, so I searched for it. Either way, love it all! Thanks

I feel you could do a whole video on the “twang”. Popping the chip out after you slice it and sending it flying with a “TWANG”! Such an essential skill! 😂

Doug, I'm an eighteen year old girl, dad has been lost in alcohol and drugs ever since I can remember-- and so no paternal figure has ever taken the time to teach me anything. My eyes swell with tears as I finish this video. It's such a silly thing to say, but your channel has truly made me realize how beautiful it is to have a good mentor. I'm taking up carving and doing the best I can with this beautiful hobby that brings me so much joy. Thank you for teaching with such patience, knowledge and kindness. Some of us have never known it. Much love to you and your family.

Great little demos with time to practice before the next demo. Don't forget the gloves on both hands and use a table for extra hold down. Remember, not all basswood is as soft as the beaver craft you may have purchased. Make a few 1x1 before trying denser woods.
