I think the fact that this is a limped pot changes a lot of things as the potential flushes Colman can have are significantly reduced since most of the middling hearts are taken and the premium flush hands are going to isolate pre a good amount of the time.

Hey Doug, appreciate you giving out some of your poker analysis for free here - your insight is very helpful. I have two questions: What do you mean when you say we have a lot of JTs? Do you mean that we Will be playing JTo/JTs from these positions often? And how should we go about constructing our bluffing range since we don't want to have too many bluffs? Should we be calling with our stronger flush draws and raising our weak flush draws? Call with JT and raise with combos of 56 instead? And I suppose we should change the frequency of how we play our range too - like some percentage of the time call with your stronger draws and some other times raise those weaker draws.
@UraStr8 жыл бұрын
he means that you have 16 combs of JTo/JTs and you lot of other combs of other gut shots/open enders and flush draws, whereas there's not many combos of value hands in comparison, which means that folding some or not bluffing all of your draws is the balanced play here..
@JragonMotH8 жыл бұрын
What does it mean when you say better to bluff with the T8/86/low FD with them having less equity vs the value range? Is that 'put lower value cards in the bluff end of your range so they hit the flops your value end doesn't' ?

Didnt get it. U said Daniel should 3-bet turn with hands with less equity against colman's value range (low FD, 86,8T) and fold JT, which has a better equity? Chavy Cash it took me 10 months to think about it, but I think it was a blocker bet meant to cheapen and secure a showdown. Doug used negs ego to not get owned if he had bet the river, that's why a check check happened. If he valuebetted, a check raise war would have happened.

Looks like daniel is setting up a future value bet. daniel was short stacked, so that is why his size of bet was small. Players, in general hate being bluffed so his play puts that little seed of doubt in the back dg's opponents minds with this unusual series.
@MaximillianNewman6 жыл бұрын
Negreanu confused me here. With the min re-raise on the turn it was almost like he was trying to show that he had a monster hand but wanted to keep it affordable so his opponent would call, getting value and also keeping the other guy around to get more money from him on the river. But then he checked the river to trap when he hit the straight. It was kind of like his story changed and it was just confusing. He feigned strength on the turn and then feigned weakness on the river. I guess with the check on the river he could have been trying to say "that min raise was a bluff and I didn't hit," but that logic just didn't add up to me which is why I think Coleman checked back. Im curious what bet size Coleman would have called to, if any.

You forgot to analyse bet/call vs bet/fold on the river for Neg.
@stevennicholas54728 жыл бұрын
I'll start by saying i'm no expert at poker. I appreciate the thought of would-have/could-have that goes into the analysis of a hand, but, a game consists of more than just a hand. Negreanu could be setting the stage for future hands, seemingly playing a weird hand and 'goofing' around to give his opponents a false sense of security, or to keep them on their toes. There are so many ways to play the game that no two hands, even if they are the exact same cards would be played the same way, which is what makes the game so interesting. Negreanu didn't get to where he is by playing goofy hands; he has strategies. Coleman looks like someone who thought he had a read on Negreanu, and then is suddenly blind-sided. What did that do to the rest of his game? Like i said, i'm no expert, not even a regular player, but there is a reason that pros hate playing against amateurs, because they are totally unpredictable. Negreanu wasn't playing by the book and he probably could have gotten more out of that hand, but it has to be seen in the context of the entire game. I just discovered your channel, and have subscribed, and i do like thinking about the analysis of a hand, but good or bad play of a particular hand has to be taken in context of the entire game, except if one is all-in, then that hand becomes the most important. Just my green chip.
@aaaaaaaaardvark4 жыл бұрын
You raise an excellent point in that each poker play can not necessarily be analyzed in just the context of that one hand, especially in a tournament of this magnitude. Negreanu, and Colman for that matter, may have been setting each other up for later hands. That having been said, these videos are far and away the best of their type on the 'Net.
@stevennicholas54724 жыл бұрын
@@aaaaaaaaardvark No argument there, which is why i subscribed. Excellent analysis of hands and possible ways of playing hands, but they are isolated hands. Unless professionals continually play pedal to the metal all the time, there could have been a number of reasons for playing the way they did, but i do like the analytical breakdown, it is food for thought.
@The_Blanco_Bronco8 жыл бұрын
The light 3-bet on the turn indicates a bluff/weak hand by Daniel. The checked river on the flush scare card gives Colman the opportunity to bluff Daniel and for Daniel to call/shove Colman's bluff and put Colman in a tough spot for all of his chips (which is what poker is about). If Daniel bets the river, Colman probably folds because of the straight/flush/boats that are likely to be in daniel's range. Checking was the right move imo.

Doug, you gotta analyze the last rounds of this tournament where Coleman and Negrreanu have headsup. There was one that Negreanu says “I don’t think you have good hands” and calls 18M with K high. Coleman won that pot with full. I can’t understand how Negreanu calls 18M with K high! Can you explain why he believed it? I suspect that he just let Coleman win the bracelet.

@aaaaaaaaardvark4 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree, but I think this is the $1million buy-in One Drop, with only 5 or 6 getting paid, and HUGE pay bumps along the way. It's a lot tougher to throw chips at a player like Dan Colman, who could easily have had hit a flush on the river. You are probably right, but the penalties would be severe if you were wrong. Obviously, DNeg didn't have one of his famous reads on Colman that hand.

@gregolfdude7 жыл бұрын
I understand everyone has their own opinion, but I think the logic here is flawed. Negreanu with the min reraise is trying to make it seem like he knows his opponent is weak and is trying to suck a little more value on the hand. He never expected the 8 which he 95% of the time would bet, but you can't always bet when you hit on the river. It's possible Coleman had a hand like a7 and Dan was hoping for a check raise on the river, or legit wasn't sure he was ahead. Anyway, this hand isn't special. When the blinds go at it after limping the range of hole cards is huge. It's basically a guessing game.

@davidl.22848 жыл бұрын
Timid poker for sure ... understandable given the tourney and the money on the line but TIMID nonetheless....Daniels weak re-raise to 2 million over Colman's 1.275 is really a goof ...you have to have intent of making a 9 fold here or why even re-raise? Getting the value pre-river and then not betting the river is weird..... Were this a regular cash game or a smaller tourney Daniel is less tense and takes his time and crunches the river with a value bet of 3.5 million into 5 mill. Small ball it is in these situations however... content with small pot builders and limiting the downside at all costs.. Understood. Thanks for great stuff Doug!
@swalker94825 жыл бұрын
I don't get the check on river after raising the turn. Coleman is going to check behind because he is afraid of being trapped all because of the raise on turn. Daniel is the best but I believe betting that river is best. He may fold anyway, but could call with top pair second kicker. Actually, I'm back to change my mind. If he bets and gets raised he could have to fold with flush out there.
@paulpena50408 жыл бұрын
I think he should have value bet on the river. WHat's the point of raising on the turn when you smash it on the river and don't get any more equity? Seems -ev. Yes your opponent could have completed the flush or boat but risk/reward seems to favor the value bet.

Few things. The 3 bet from DN, could have given him the info he needed that either DC hit the board on flop or possibly on a draw. So when the river comes out, even though DN had a straight he couldn't bet. If DN bets, he would have been called by a better hand and/or raised. I doubt DC would be calling at the river with what's out on the table, he would have raised or fold IMO.

min raise on the turn makes sense to me because if he does hit his straight, he already has a good amount of chips in the pot...

Adding 'Analysis of' in front of your title, here, would have kept those thumbs-down at bay. (I.e., the title would have been rendered far less annoying.) Unless you were simply going for views, making your otherwise apparent misread of KZbin's poker-loving viewers more understandable.

From GTO perspective ATo can be a limping hand from the button in MTTs when there are antes. Antes are also the reason why we raise smaller in MTTs because we want to play more hands (because of better odds due to antes), and in order to play more hands we need to raise smaller or even limp.

what do you mean 'could have chosen different hands to use'? what do you mean 'use'? You mean represent? Sorry, I'm a noob!

Yes, but Dnegs needs to continue with his semi-bluff that turned into a monster on the river. Definitely needs to throw a 2mil bet into there.

there are a lot of dislikes bc people don't like poker analysts.. because they think they can play... we call them fish :)

Seemed like Negreanu didn't really take anyone to school. Negreanu simply got lucky that the 5th card that flipped over was an eight. Then, it seems like Negreanu just wanted to be a nice guy by not pushing all in. So , he checks to give the new kid on the block a break. The kid most likely wouldn't have had a flush draw by the way he was betting earlier. Also the kid most likely wouldn't have had a full house. So, Negreanu was just being nice not to strip the kid of every cent he had.

Wow, I have to say, this was VERY AMATEUR PLAY by Daniel. "If I raise very small, it will appear like massive strength!" This was the apex of his thought in this hand. We all have bad moments at the table, and this is definitely one of Daniel's.

He bets and then Daniel bets. You somehow talk about it for 7 ministers straight
