Dougs D314 header review for 1967-1972 C10 LS Swap

Here I go into detailed review and fitment of Dougs D314 headers in my lS1 swapped 1972 C10. It’s a lot easier to see everything with the cab off. I also go into detail about the headers, X-pipe I built for the truck and the motor mounts and brackets I am using.

D322 for those who want a 572 BB. I went through about 4 sets before I could find any that fit. Just had to round about ¼ inch lower frame rail actually. But to me, they fit. Great. Video as usual!

Thank you for your input on these headers! I have sometimes thought what headers that I had wanted to use on my '68 if I had decided to use headers. Just recently I had picked up a '76 C10 SWB without an engine. It did come with an SM465 manual transmission though, and it appears that those headers will clear the bell crank as you had stated at the 2:23 mark.

While these headers work great with newer transmissions either auto or manual with a hydraulic clutch, I am unsure if they will work with an older transmission that rely on the original Z bar style linkage. Normally when doing an LS engine swap one usually goes with a newer corresponding transmission, due to not require special adapting of the motor to transmission. However some still chose to use an older transmission which is doable. I just couldn’t tell you if you would have to modify anything in your case or if everything will just bolt together..

I have seen the “LS” flat motor mount plates everywhere lately but the rest is a little confusing to me. But, dealer parts, you know what you’re getting. It is just chrome looking mount with the 5 1/4” thru bolt that has me scratching my head. I have seen on videos where they move or replace what they call “Pedistals” for the rubber / steel motor mount to bolt on are all 4-bolt like online at Rock Auto for factory replacement from 1968 up as these appear to be full wrap a round mounts. In my metal barrel, I found a “U” shaped cup that bolts to the engine then has the holes for the single long bolt & nut. While true a pedestal for an inline 6 maybe different from a V8, I only have one block-side pocket. It has the 3 bolt hole pattern to work on the small block or LS adaptor plates. I guess I can go to the ITC website and POL as well to look. I don’t have mine out, nor remember if Nixon was in office the last time I saw one! Almost 40 years is a blur! Flat rate at the dealer I stayed until 9PM. Manager ran me and Buick tech out. Thanks but sorry if I am mixed up.

Most of the plates just have multiple mounting holes so you can choose your engine setback. The standoffs I used is just so you can use the GM A body engine mounts which are simpler. You can still use the original truck mounts and standoffs they are just harder to assemble and disassemble. I’ve been a tech for 25 years and I always want my own stuff to come apart as easily as possible for any future repairs.

@@curtrobinsongarage5452 I agree that removing one long bolt to pull the engine or put in, in easy. My son is into “G-Body” and bugs me weekly to repair, wire or whatever. His 81 El Co is solid white and perfect paint. I built a 350 with 500HP in mind and must be close as he has twisted two diff’s. I don’t remember the year, but I thing 72 C10 that GM quit using the rubber mount that bolted from the bottom up. The newer one is called by many as the “Clam Shell” type. That is the one that bolts to the crossmember perches with 4 bolts. The top half that bolts to the LS adaptor is what I am looking for. Good info and I will check out the other websites for mounts. I have the adjustable plates bolt on my LS already. Once I get the correct upper mounts (3 hole), then I will get the actual motor mounts that have 4 bolts to frame, but have the front to rear mount bolt hole. PS. You last video of painted cab, the firewall appears chrome! Serious nice. I work with some techs that were good on Buicks, but won’t touch anything else. I just happened to start with metric bike in a box for $10. It turned out to we a Yamaha step thru. In the county, no one had metric tools and soon found the parents of high school buddies bring their Opels, Datsun PU and Toyota’s over. Brakes, water pump, belts just simple stuff. Then at 14, things blew up and went 4 miles to town to work in one man shop I helped him build. So, I guess an apprentice. I enjoy seeing younger guys in the field as a service tech. Congrats!

Hi my friend loving all your videos. Especially on this c10. I’m working on a 67 c10 with ls swap just like you but my question is why you use 73-87 headers. Instead for 67-72?? My frame is not narrow so don’t know if it will fit for the 73.

Thanks for watching! I used these headers because they were the only ones that fit my specifications. I wanted 1 7/8 primary’s with ceramic coating but I also wanted V-band clamp flanges built in. Most LS swap headers specifically for the 1967-72 are only slip fit design. So for me these are what I wanted. I also know someone that used them in a 67-72 and they fit so I knew it wouldn’t be a problem. The only way I see a problem with these headers is if you are running a factory style shift linkage either auto or manual it probably won’t work. I plan to use a cable linkage for my transmission so it’s not an issue. And if you were doing an LS swap with a manual a lot of guys might use a T5 or T56 in which case the hydraulic clutch wouldn’t be a problem either.

They are about the same length as stock LS1 wires, roughly 9” tip to tip. Thanks for watching.

Hey my friend. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Have a question about 4l60e off of a 5.3 engine earlier 2000s. I have a 5.7 off 2003 corvette.. My question is my transmission will work with it? Or what auto transmission will work. If you got any info can me know thank you

That transmission will work, assuming it is the right configuration for what you are doing, what I mean is that if it is off a 5.3 it could have been a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive transmission. If it is off a 2 wheel drive vehicle and your putting it in a 2wd with the 5.7 lS1 from the corvette you are just fine.

MSD-32819 and the crossmember is a Dirty Dingo for 1967-72 C10, not sure on its exact number, but a quick google search should be able to find it.

Hey my friend I have a question if you don’t mind. What year of corvette did your engine come out of? Because all the engines I’ve found are drive by wire and I saw that yours is drive by cable thank you for your time

Mine is from a 2004 GTO, but all 1999-02 Camaro/firebird are all cable. On the corvette LS1 you can convert the throttle body to cable. It just has to be reprogrammed for it in the PCM. LS2 and LS3 motors are a completely different story. Also the reason I don’t mention 1997 and 1998 year LS 1 is because the motor and PCM are different slightly and not desirable.

If you are referring to the plastic fuel rail covers, yes they fit all LS1 motors.

You must not be using the factory LS1 dipstick tube and dipstick or somehow don’t have it routed correctly because that’s what I’m using in the video and it fits perfectly. However if your using a dipstick tube from a different LS motor series it may not. Most do route the same however. I said in my video the headers fit all LS motors however other things may have to be modified or changed just like I had to change spark plug wires to keep them from touching the header tubes. When you change parts from factory sometimes other modifications are needed.

Was looking at your video n looked at headers on my truck n they are different! Thinking that’s why oil dipstick won’t work on my truck!

@@frankjaramillo8600 So ya, that’s probably why it doesn’t fit. I’m not familiar with those headers so I couldn’t tell you which dipstick to get to work with those. Sometime you can gently bend a dipstick tube with a tubing bender to make it fit, just don’t try doing it too much by hand or it will kink the tube, they don’t like to be bent too much.
