Great! Trying to share what works and what does not when you are on a budget doing it as a hobby. Lot of written articles out there but I could not find any good video content years ago when we started doing this. Hoping this helps people

What’s the price on those Clearfield Sunflowers? I couldn’t find a price online. I’ve been using Dove Kandy from Pheasants Forever Habitat Store, they grow well but not round up ready. Not being able to round up makes it tough to maintain a good crop.

@@TWHunt Crop production services had a 10 pound bag for $60. I believe a 50 pound bag is around $300 ish. They say you only need 10 pounds to the acre but that is if you are drilling perfectly spaced rows. We get about 60% germination and then on top of that have heavy deer pressure so I go heavier

@@Yellowlab247_Outdoors in years past I have used at least 50 lbs to broadcast just over an acre. It’s way overseeded but you can never know how many will germinate and how many will get eaten by birds.I will be row planting this year just under an acre, so this will be the real test of how much seed I actually need. Might switch to clearfield if you have good results. I decided to rotate a section into millet/sorghum mix to break up the sunflower monotony and it makes it easier to mow down for a decoy set up and dove landing zone.

Clearfields are expensive and to me call for a row planter to do it right. Row planter is now in the budget for next year.

Good video. Interested to see the side by side differences between the two sunflowers. Should be a notable difference. At 2:32 you said last year you used Cleth on the Peredoviks. Was that a pre-emergent spray or have you found Peredoviks are resistant to Cleth after they have sprouted?

I waited until they were tall and about to mature and came back under them around the perimeter and down the middle laying the spray up under them on the grass. Shouldn't hurt them to apply directly over up to a pint per acre but mom was worried about the bee's getting the chemical on the flower head. Cleth should be labeled for all sunflowers, Clearfield and regular

Thanks for the reply. I am planting today or tomorrow if the weather allows. Field has been deep tilled and ready. The one thing I will do different this year is leave a 4wheeler strip at 30’ so I can foliar fertilize with my boom with Agrisol 20/20/20 throughout the growing process. I am not very impressed by the heads sizes on the peredoviks but going to give them every chance this year to get them to their full potential. If this does not work I will make the switch to Clearfields if your results warrant. Your side by side result videos are dead on and will answer many questions. I was thinking that since they were a broadleaf that Clethodim might be compatible. Do you have any pictures from last year of the end result of your Peredoviks before you bushhogged them?

Great video, I’m going to plant a clear field variety this year. How much spartan and dual magnum did you use per acre?

I’m in north eastern NC I put a Electric fence around my soybeans and sunflowers cost about 400-500 full proof and a one time investment!

Probably going to have to go in that direction, it’s hard to out plant the grazing on only a couple acres. Thanks !

I'll have to go back and get a list of your pre-emergents to see if some of these will help me out. I really want to burn the entire field that is starting to be taken over by crab grass. Also I sold both my seed drill and two row planter this year to a friend that lives not too far from my property. He used the two row planter to plant sunflowers this year. He said last year he planted sunflowers and Iron and clay peas as a deer attractant over the sunflowers, but the deer walked right through the peas to get to the sunflowers. I sure hope the soybeans work for you all. If not you may have to try that electric fence.

I have 3 plots of a standed sunflower black oil seed.there 3 to 5" high.what is the best way to kill the weeds n where can I get it.thank you.

Unless they are CLEARFIELD variety of sunflowers, the only post-emergent herbicide you can spray that I am aware of is Clethodim. Common names are GrassOut or Arrest Max. Now is the time to spray them, when the plant is between the 4 & 8 leaf stage.

Should put an electric fence around both plots

Debated it... buddy has all the poles, clips and box. Just need to get some new rope for it. We'll see if the soybeans help, I'm hopeful
