Dover Traction Elevator at the Tremont Parking Garage, Denver, CO

This is the tallest parking garage in Denver and one of the tallest in the US at 12 stories tall. There are actually quite a few 12-story parking garages in Denver including the Wells Fargo Center garage with destination dispatch elevators. You can find the links to all of my 12-story garage videos at the bottom of the description. About this garage though. Interestingly enough, it actually prohibits photography. And the guy we rode up to the top with a security guard. However he was fine with me filming the elevators, he just didn't want me to film on the roof, although we did actually get a view from the top. The elevator had the floors labeled by letters and numbers. The labeling was obviously originally letters and the added braille was by numbers and color-coded. Overall this elevator was fairly interesting. The statistics can be found below.

They were cool as Dover elevators. Wish I could have picked up the panels from these, but I was 15 when these got modded and rarely got to downtown.

I wonder why they don't allow photography on the rooftop level, even though it provides the greatest views of a metropolitan downtown area. It also would have been interesting if they had a 13th floor with the letter combination YZ (13=YZ).

+CaptainElevator42189 The same company (Brookfield Properties) that owns Republic Plaza also owns this garage. It appears they prohibit photography in all their buildings, including garages and even small (less than 10-story) office buildings. Even though they prohibit photography though, they're still friendly to guests. I think this garage might have a 13th floor actually, depending on the way you look at it. The rooftop level extends up higher than the 12th floor elevator landing at its highest point, but there is no staircase or elevator leading to it, only driving ramps. So people that park on "13" have to walk down the driving ramp to get to the elevators on level 12.

So that's the reason why the 13th floor isn't served by the elevators, plus the machine rooms are above, so they need the top floor for the machine room. Also, another place that isn't friendly about photography is Parkway Properties (formerly Thomas Properties Group), because I tried to get into one building in late 2009 but couldn't (Great Hills Plaza), and I was stopped for photographing in the 32-floor One America Center in early 2011.

***** On Google Earth, you can get a clear view of this parking garage. The elevators are in the Northeast corner of the garage, the shaft is noticeably different from the rest of the garage and the elevators easily could've been glass. Level 13 is only in the center of the garage, so it wouldn't even be possible for the elevator to serve it. The Republic Plaza is one of the only places I've ever actually been kicked out of for filming. When I got kicked out, I never actually filmed anything, I got kicked out for asking if I could film. I've heard of cases at Republic Plaza where they've even escorted people across the street for taking pictures. However,the place is very welcoming to most visitors as long as you don't take a picture near it.

+Elevating Denver Some of the parking garages that I have been to that have elevators, don't serve one of the floors. Like the Medical Center of Aurora Garage, the garage is really 5 stories (looking at it from the north side). The elevators really serve the 2nd-5th floors, but to get to the 1st floor, you either have to take the ramp or stairs. Then the other garage, which is in Denver, is a 9-story garage. Here the elevators serve the bottom 8 floors. Then to access level 9, same thing, you would have to the stairs or the ramp. And then there is a garage by the Children's Hospital Colorado that is 8-story, the elevator serves the bottom 7 floors. But with this one, the only way to access level 8, is by the ramp.

The garage is not owned by the city, but it is open for public parking Monday to Saturday.

Is this a city owned garage? Because if it is, the no photography policy is unconstitutional and a violation of first amendment rights!

I don't think the garage is city owned. I have looked up the owner and it appears to be owned by Brookfield properties. That is the same company which owns the Republic Plaza (the tallest building) in Denver and it appears to me that they welcome visitors, but have banned photography in most of their buildings. Awhile ago, I got kicked out of Republic Plaza for asking permission to film. What made me mad though, was when I saw other people taking pictures in the building and the security had no issue with them.
