John Murray My friends and I were at the Empire on 13/11/2000, I remember it well. Elbow were third on the bill, below a couple of guys playing stylaphones 😂 It was only the second time I'd seen Doves, the first being at Wembley Stadium supporting Oasis. I've got a bootleg of their gig two days later in Manchester. I'm going to play it now.

I always loved this track - enjoyed a lot of their music, but Cedar Room seemed head and shoulders above the rest. It has a kind of chiming drone about it, and I like the way the vocals are of a different rhythm to to the music. Glad I’m not the only one.

Ive seen em twice and when they supported coldplay, at the reebok stadium, I enjoyed them as much as the then third album, coldplay if not more! Superb live. One of their strongest tracks this. Ive been to the eden project and saw the stage. Im going to have to attend a gig in this amazing setting. bucket list stuff.

Okay. I love music and should know the answer to this, and think I do. Is he playing a right-hander's four string bass upside-down? The low bass string seems to be on the bottom of the neck. Kinda blind in my old age, but it seems true. Jimi Hendrix (never been a fan) bassist? Regardless, great track live or studio. My fave. Weird, I have basically transitioned from right-handed to primarily left-handed over the last 4 yrs or so. It is strange, what life can throw at you to make you entirely overhaul your daily approach. Well lefty? Righty? Whatever it takes. I could have searched online for my lefty bassist query, yet you all seem quite helpful. Hook a brother up? Danke. Mad Love

OK... What I'd like to see is Jimmy Goodwin working with the lead guitarist of TheWeddingPresent from the "Sea Monsters" album... I think his name was Paul... Or, for that matter, David Gedge as well... (if David would ever let Jimmy sing - hehe) This song is very similar to early WeddingPresent tracks, (e.g., George Best, Bizzaro, self-titled) in terms of the way it begins with that rapidly strummed guitar-wall behind the melody. The rhythm is unlike theweddingpresent, but that wall of guitar is so similar. Such great stuff. You Brits have all the best music (yep, a yank wrote this - but my parents were British, so I have decent taste in music.)
